Edie was perusing the latest correspondence from her fork. She still should have been paying enough attention to realize that the door didn't go where it ought before it swung shut and she couldn't sense anyone else anymore, but she wasn't.
After opening and closing the door a couple times to make sure she hadn't just been abducted somehow, she looks around.
"Mostly for the mes in other worlds, as I said. But thank you."
"Oh, I have dads plural because he forked, there are ten of him."
"He's really smart and there are a lot of problems we need solved."
"...okay! There is, uh, technology for that - secret technology, for good reasons - but not 1960s technology."
"So daeva innately live in realms where there are no non-daeva people or animals smarter than cats. Demons can't make minds, so it stays that way. Technology that a demon could conjure that would let them have children would probably be used by lots of nice daeva to have children and by some horrible daeva to make personal slaves. We're going to conquer Hell but we can't yet."
"Yes. In my home dimension demons can steal souls, and sometimes do. We are going to put an end to that, too."
"The chips in our heads - not the computer chips, the one I have and my brother has and Emma has but Tyelcormo and Idaia do not - back up our brains. We can be resurrected from those. If you are sufficiently desperate you can trade a demon someone's chip, or if you are sufficiently bad at bindings they could run around collecting them. And then, back in Hell, get people if they want."
"I take it in other worlds 'the part of you that contains your self and persists after you die' is more of a metaphysical construct."
"Well, we keep our souls in our skulls and can trade them for favors, though we don't usually survive the trade."
"Anyway, you should get Emma to give you computers, then you can read all the classified material."
"That's gonna be weird," she opines, but requests the computer anyway.
