Edie was perusing the latest correspondence from her fork. She still should have been paying enough attention to realize that the door didn't go where it ought before it swung shut and she couldn't sense anyone else anymore, but she wasn't.
After opening and closing the door a couple times to make sure she hadn't just been abducted somehow, she looks around.
"I've been dead for all the atrocities so far and would like to keep it that way."
"Yeah.
This is cowardly of me to ask but can you tell everyone, I don't know if I can face them until I know how they'll react."
Attention all interested parties, he sends her and his family and Imliss and the alt-Idaia and the alt-Imliss and the alt-him and the alt-Maitimo and Cam, we're having a baby! We kind of might not have done it on purpose but Idaia is now pregnant and that means if you are mean to her at all, including vaguely thinking while in proximity to her that this was irresponsible of us, I will throw you in the lake and talk the giant squid into keeping you there. So get all your thinking-that-was-irresponsible out of the way and then help us decorate a nursery because Idaia is going to be the absolute best mother in the entire multiverse and this baby is going to be the happiest, safest, most loved baby in all of history anywhere.
"I think he's talking to you, dear," Edie says to her fiancé, recalling when she had told him this might be a possibility.
"Yeah, okay, it's not as if I can actually with a straight face criticize people for fucking up and not being responsible - Idaia's sixteen, is that dangerous or something -"
"We definitely don't have to do that if this is stressing you out."
