"Waterwalking, then. Kind of poetic, and definitely fitting for the first real god in our world."

"If you're sure...okay. Go ahead."

"All right. I'll need to touch you to bestow it." She holds out her hand for him.

He takes it.

"What does that mean, anyway, resistance to damp? What happens if if rains?"

And lo! he is blessed. It doesn't feel like anything.

"It means getting wet doesn't bother you! Remember how I said Ellayania of Libraries and Fen? Fens make up most of her domain, and they're not always the most comfortable place for people to live, because chilly and wet. So she offers that blessing to help people out."

"So...should I go try it? How do I know if it worked?"

"You know it worked because I told you it would! If it was one of the other enhancements you'd be able to tell more easily. You can try it out on any body of water, just walk normally. You'll still be able to swim if you want to, too."

"Okay. Thanks, acolyte of Ellayania."

"Back to reading?"

"I think I've got the hang of it. The alphabet's straightforward enough even if your spelling gets kind of wonky sometimes. I can reliably understand the dictionary, that should get me through."

"Okay. Should I show your where you'll be sleeping?"

"I'm not quite ready to go to bed yet, but sure."

So she shows her the room.

There are scrubs hanging off a chair, a laptop on the desk, and the bed is already made.

It looks like it might be her room.

"...I don't want to kick you out of your own bed. I can sleep on the couch, that would be more than sufficient, really."

"I can take the couch, don't worry. We'll find something more sustainable tomorrow."

"Well, if you're really sure. Thank you."

"Okay, what kind of things did you like to do back home? I'm sure we can find something to entertain you, until Scott gets back."

"I mostly traveled around making sure people's problems were being handled. Kind of the job of an acolyte. Ellayania's technically omnipresent in her domain, but she's not paying attention to literally everything at once, and some people are more comfortable if I act as an intermediary. I'll ask Scott about his secret werewolf stuff when he gets back, but until then I should probably take some time to actually go through and properly read those books I was looking at in the library."

"Okay, sounds good. I'll be upstairs if you need me."

"I am going to be looking for some water. Have fun reading."

"I will! Bye."

Pascale sits crosslegged on the couch and closes her eyes. She calls up an image of the library as she saw it early, opens the door, and steps in. Everything is exactly how it was, the librarian behind the counter, the patrons in the reading area, the computers sitting on their tables, all the books on their shelves. She goes to the aisle she was in, and with a thought, the shelf rearranges so that all the books she actually saw the inside of are grouped together. She skims the titles, picks a modern history book, and starts reading it, processing the data she had already gathered.

They leave her alone for a few hours.

Isaac comes back home after an hour, but lets her focus.

And after a few hours, Melissa interrupts her.

"Pascale? Are you hungry?"

Pascale lets the library dissolve around her, then opens her eyes and blinks, back on the couch. She smiles up at Melissa.

"Hmm, yeah. I could eat."

"We usually have dinner later on Sundays. Today is Sunday, that's a day of the week. I don't have work on Sundays, and the boys don't have school or work."
