"You're a major player. I wanted to find out what you and your goddess want from us, and what you're going to do to get it."

"What she wants are believers. What we're going to do is offer a helping hand, to any that seek it. I plan to finish my survey of the supernatural elements in town, solve any problems I encounter in so doing, and then begin introducing my goddess to the population at large."

"How do your blessings work? Do you have any for hunger?"

"Blessings are a minor permanent benefit. A god can have at most six blessings to bestow. Ellayania's are speed, stamina, memory, vision, cold and damp resistance, and waterwalking. None of those directly address the issue of hunger, depending on the precise nature of the problem she might create food directly or provide arable land with beneficial weather to solve it."

"I'm afraid their problem is less tractable. One of the best things you can do here is probably deal with the family of wendigos. Obligate cannibals, they'll keep the local homicide rate high. There are other options, but that's the way to earn some goodwill from the local supernaturals."

Pascale nods.

"What can you tell me about them?"

"I don't know this family very well, because making friends with wendigos is dangerous in more than one way. Wendigos in general have a hunger that has to be fed by human flesh. When they don't feed they, they undergo a shift, which I've heard affects the color of the eyes and the shape of their jaw. They have sharp teeth. They're stronger than werewolves, but I doubt they can handle a goddess. What else do you need to know?"

"Where can I find them?"

"Oh, the suburbs. The school probably has their address. One of them goes here."

"What's their name? If I don't have them in class you probably have easier access to that information than I do."

"Sean Walcott."

The name is unfamiliar.

"Haven't had them. Can you get me the address?"

"I'll have it to you by tomorrow. Be careful, you don't want the supernaturals to think you're hunting them in general. Make it clear you're only targeting the monsters."

"I only trouble those who trouble trouble. How is the rest of the alpha pack doing? "

"As well as you would expect. Ennis wants to kill whoever killed Deucalion, but luckily he's not sure who did it. Kali has realized it's you, but hasn't told him yet. She'll probably leave town. The twins will probably stay here and not bother anyone."

"If Ennis gets out of hand, can you try to point him at Ellayania instead of directly at me?"

"Since she is the one who killed him and rather resilient, I'm sure if I have to tell him something, I'll tell him that."

"Ms. Yanna? Is everything alright?"

Scott is standing in the doorway, looking at Ms. Morrell with some confusion.

"Ah, hello, Scott. Yes, everything's fine, we were just talking."

"Nothing to worry about, Scott. I was just leaving."

And she does.

"Did I interrupt anything?"

"Just wrapping up some strategy related to the alphas."

"It really doesn't make me want to stay out of this when you're talking to the alpha pack's emissary."

"What problems do you have with it?"

"She's still dangerous, Pascale, and you're not in Ellayania's domain."
