"Good." Is their location private?

The street? Not so much.

Then they'll need to find somewhere to talk.

Table at the Three Broomsticks?

Maybe a booth in a quiet corner?

Sure, that works.

Makes talking a bit easier.

And James can treat to a round of drinks.

Good girl.

So. Any specific questions?

A small variety, really - she honestly mostly wants to chat for now. Figure out what questions she even has.

Ellie wouldn't mind the chance to get to know them better. What classes are they taking?

She started in Arithmancy, Ancient Egyptian, Government, and Literature for her electives, though she finished her OWLs for all her classes early. She's continued into NEWTs for Arithmancy and Ancient Egyptian, and tested into Ancient Runes and Latin - she's actually caught up to fifth year for those, plus fourth year Divination. She fully tested out of Astronomy and Old English, going straight to sitting her OWL. Of her core classes, she's kept up with Charms and Herbology at the NEWT level - and she's got an independent study research project into the history of Ancient Egyptian mortuary rituals. She's hoping to finish her Herbology NEWT this year, Potions next - if she can knock out both NEWTs before seventh year, it'd be convenient to use Hogwarts' resources for further study - and she'll probably just replace Latin with Ancient Greek next year - she's also in a book club (mostly for muggleborn students, getting caught up on magical literature) -

(This is a stupidly heavy courseload - normal fifth years have their six core classes, plus two to four electives. Sixth and seventh years usually only take three or four NEWTs, with a capstone project in seventh year, no extra classes. Lily's at three NEWTs (at least one at double speed), three standard classes, and what sure sounds like a capstone, all in fifth year.)

Obviously Lily doesn't believe in sitting idle. Ellie's surprised she has time to spare for this meeting. Her own courseload wasn't two-thirds of that.

Not needing to study much beyond just reading books helps a lot, and her parents indulge her reading habits. She actually learned her languages (plus the non-magical aspects of Astronomy, which is most of the actual workload, and the advanced math parts of Arithmancy) over the summer, through muggle books, courses, or tutors. Plus, everything but practical work is perfectly learnable on summer break, and she can even use a calculator for Arithmancy. (She may or may not have a calculator stashed somewhere off Hogwarts grounds to make doing her Arithmancy homework a bit easier.)

And she did most of her project over last summer, too - nearly everything about Ancient Egyptian rituals is actually known to muggles; they see it as evidence of religion, though, not magic. And they're the ones who discovered most of it - something like ninety percent of Lily's contributions to that field in the magical world will probably consist of sending letters to muggle archeologists and subscribing to the appropriate journals. Plus being aggressively polite with goblins, who also already know a lot.

The real trick is that Lily is just, like, insanely smart.

Guilty as charged.

That does tend to help, in Ellie's experience.

"You come off as fairly insanely smart yourself."

"I suppose. Never had much trouble picking things up."

"...Why didn't you take advantage of that in school, then?"

"Too much else going on, most years. I didn't have nearly the support you did. Couldn't use my summers the same way you do."

"...Ah."

"I'm... Sorry."

Shrug. "It is what it is. My post-graduate experience has been just as educational, if less formalized."

"That's good. And you should have time to study here - speaking of, actually..."
