"I am a cleric. I'm coming off a contract in Khelt where I taught other people to be clerics, but in Liscor my primary occupation was and probably will again be healing."

"Are there common occupations for [Clerics] other than healing?"

"On Golarion, yes, though most of them feature healing as it doesn't take up much time. I was previously a military officer in command of a fortress."

"Can you list the most common examples, other than healing and military command?"

"It depends on the kind of cleric, but taken generally, clerics may work in banking, charitable causes, adventuring, counseling, farming, art, midwifery... Command specifically is not indicated, I was promoted over time from a non-command clerical post."

By which I mean, for example, the [Thief] and [Assassin] classes are typically considered to be in poor standing here, even though individual members may be in good standing, including being employed by legal authorities."

"That depends very dramatically on the kind of cleric but the kind I am is in good standing with most governments."

"Elaborate?"

"...it's a kind of class that can only be bestowed by a granting authority and the different granting authorities and their taste in subordinates are themselves in wildly different relationships with various governments."

"Her name is Iomedae. She is Lawful and Good - these are technical categories on Golarion - and concerned with the efficient application of resources toward solving the most pressing available problems."

"What are central cases of problems she considers available and pressing?"

"The fort I commanded held the border around a portal to a plane of an infinite number of Chaotic Evil monsters, that's a standard example. Hundreds of years ago She was also instrumental in preventing an exceptionally powerful necromancer from taking over the world and sealing him away; some of her Her followers today maintain that seal."

"What are central examples of how 'efficient application of resources' differs from without that specification?"

"There's another Good granting authority called Shelyn and She's interested in art without more than very cursory attention to how any of the art alleviates any serious problems or builds any capacity for addressing future ones; I wouldn't impugn Her Goodness but She's definitely not being efficient in that respect."

"What are circumstances where Iomedae or her [Clerics] would violate laws to achieve objectives, or approve of doing so?"

"If the laws were not in legitimate authority over persons acting to achieve considerable Good. There's a... lot of philosophy about this kind of thing, I don't know how much elaboration you want."

"That's fine. That is to say she would endorse violating laws which are in illegitimate authority, or laws which are not acting to achieve considerable good? What does she consider legitimate and illegitimate authority?"

"I mean that someone who is working to achieve considerable Good may validly ignore laws that do not legitimately exercise authority over them. For example I believe this allows Iomedaeans to be spies for Good foreign powers while in Evil regimes, though I have not personally ever been a spy and would need to think about it more if I were trying to do it in an orthodoxically permissible fashion. Legitimate and illegitimate authority are themselves topics with much philosophy attached and I'm not immediately thinking of a non-misleading brief summary - I think it's not strictly speaking covered by the concept of illegal orders, I think by default authorities with no analogous concept can be presumed legitimate by default..."

"...she is also a cleric but she has a different, Chaotic Good granting authority, Desna. My conjecture based on circumstantial evidence is that when in an emergency in Liscor I did not have sufficient healing capacity for the number of injured people, Iomedae suggested to Desna that She choose a cleric to get more healing in place, and Desna chose Voyager Silverfang. - Voyager is the Desnan title like Select is the Iomedaean one. I taught her about cleric magic and told her what little I knew about Desna and then lost touch when I was kidnapped; I've heard since then through mutual acquaintances that she's been traveling."

"Do you know where Silverfang was on 12 Elfebelfast?"

"No... it's possible I was told something that might or might not have included that date but I did not write it down."
