Lydia is pleased with her victory anyway. ”Good game, everyone.” She shakes hands with everyone politely.

Juliet puts a smile on her face, determined not to let her mood (or Damon) affect anyone else.

"We should play again some other time. Just the two of us, really duke it out."

“I’d be happy to.”

She takes Jackson’s hand, and they head off together.

“What did Damon have to say?”

“We can go, if you guys are talking about something personal.”

“Yeah, my parents can pick us up.”

"That would probably be rude of me. I shouldn't let my family problems inconvenience everyone."

“We’re done anyway, we could go back and hope they’re done.”

“We wouldn’t want to rush love.”

"We can just hang out here for a while? Get to know each other a little better and not talk about annoying cousins." She leans her head on Matt's shoulder.

“Okay. Let’s do some icebreakers. Um, Juliet, what’s your favorite sport.”

"I've been mostly exposed to football. Stefan is a big fan. But I like running the best. I'm thinking of joining the track team."

"Football, really? I guess he's not really a local."

"Track is probably going to be fun. I was thinking of joining."

"Do you have a favorite food?"

"He's the most local but he just has normal sporting taste. I'm a big fan of tiramisù, this coffee flavored desert. Anything with coffee in it, really. Okay, favourite class so far?"

"Math. I think I might do something in engineering. Matt, what about you?"

"English, no contest. Our school doesn't offer photography classes."

"Where would you want to go, if you could go anywhere in the world?"

"That's such a hard choice. There's the obvious one, Florence, where the Salvatores came from. But also Paris and Istanbul. There's so much history there. I'm thinking of taking a gap year after high school. If dad will let me."

"Paris, the city of art and romance. We should go."

"I wish. I'm aiming for San Francisco."

"Here's a classic: desert island, three things."

"Inhaler, first aid kit, and a hammer."

She kisses Matt. "We should."

"Desert island. I would like Matt, my camera and... something practical, like a machete or... a satellite phone. Except if I have Matt and my camera I'm pretty content to just stay there."
