"Right. If you're fine sleeping here tonight, I should probably sleep. Turn in whenever you want, as long as you don't make too much noise."

"I sleep wherever's available- Thanks again though. I'll probably stay up fairly late, get cracking on the technology briefing for in case I get rescued. Heaven knows something else will probably happen tomorrow and if I wait for a good time to do things nothing would get done."

"I think I'll leave you to it. I should get some rest, apparently being regularly possessed isn't good for a person."

Gren goes back to research, and tidily writing in her little notebook. And snacking quietly - whatever 'chips' are they're pretty tasty once you get used to the grease.

The next morning, Lydia is waiting downstairs when she wakes up.

She has some eggs and bacon made already, if she wants some.

"Bacon!"

It's safe to guess she wants some.

She can certainly have it.

Lydia seems to be barely picking at hers. More for Gren.

"Productive night?"

"I think so. First of many I hope."

"What do you think you'll tell them, when you give your briefing?"

"Mostly lists and priorities and descriptions? Military use, radios amd radar are first, then computing, then modern firearms, guided missiles. Civilian use, computers, medicine, farm equipment, electric trains, refrigeration. It's just an outline so far. I was thinking a whole neatly organized pile of notebooks for 'em."

"How would your organization be planning to interact with our government? With private companies?"

"Very solicitous, wanting scientific exchange, foreign aid. The last thing they want is a new war so no display of force or anything like that. They aren't used to companies the way they exist here, maybe treat them like merchant houses - beneath notice unless we need a large supply line from them."

"Depending on how you handle it, I think the private sector will be more willing to help you with your war than the government."

"Don't know how we'll get local money, but I can definitely see the UDF shelling out a couple billion dollars-equivalent for a mulitary grade cell phone network."

"I think I'll have to find out whether your magic has any broader applications. What have you copied? What else have you heard of? If all magic is local and personal it might not be much to trade with."

"Hm, probably the biggest is the teleporters and precogs? I mostly can't copy them. And geases maybe? Transformations, various kinds of enhanced senses, invisibility, healers."

"Transformation and healing might be easy to sell, depending on how they work. Teleportation and precogs should be even easier. Explains geases?"

"There's also curses now that I think of it, but they are really terrible. Geases are voluntary, unlike curses. Promises that cannot be broken. Criminals often have a chance to swear to do no harm instead of imprisonment or execution. Addicts sometimes swear off of their vice of choice. Anger management. Rarely, wedding vows."

"We don't have anything like that. It might appeal over how we handle criminal justice. Geases, teleportation, and precognition in exchange for telecommunciations. Anything else they might want?"

"Oh, just about everything. Guns and radar. Trains, airplanes, computers, mass production, refridgeration, GMO crops, plastic..."

"Mass production is probably easiest to get without creating a political mess...refrigeration and computing, too. You'll need to establish yourselves as having something valuable but not charge a lot for it. You'll need a charismatic negotiator to pull this off properly, got any of those?"

"Well, the Unity Mother died three years ago or she'd definitely be the one. She was... Legendary. Part of the first wave. Like, from what I've read, Abraham Lincoln and Napoleon Bonaparte combined."

"Sounds like a story and a half. Maybe we'll just have to use you as the ambassador and not put you near anything delicate."

"They'll find someone. UDF really has its head on straight, last few years."

"I don't actually know if there's any supernatural organizations around here. Something else to ask the vet. You said he wasn't in yesterday, but it might be work checking today. I'll call Scott, see if we can't set up an appointment."

She puts away her plate and makes a call.
