Z is drinking soda in an attempt to not be tasting that anymore.

Edie makes a face, then stands up, covers her mouth, and dashes from the room.

There is a strong affirmative feeling along with his esophagus' best efforts to remove everything he's ever eaten.

(He's aware that there are people watching him. It's humiliating and he feels exposed and the moment he can actually move he makes his own run for the bathroom so he can at least have this terrible experience privately.)
