She recognises that look. "I know, dearie."

"Mm."

Then she pulls herself together, blinks a little, and seems mostly composed. "Anyway, where were we – oh, right, iron blade plunged into the corpse, and then afterwards maybe we can see about staking the other bodies here so they hopefully don't turn into vampires."

… Well, she seems like she's on a mission.

Theo will just stand out of the way, not impeding any progress.

As will Norma. This is a good Slayer, she's glad the Powers That Be chose her.

Eva takes the iron blade from Norma, stabs it into the heart of the librarian, makes sure to cover it in blood plenty, and then asks, "Do I need to leave it covered in blood and somehow protect it this way, or can I clean it off?"

"You can clean it off, the magic's already there."

So she looks around and finds some paper towels on a nearby surface, grabs it, and wipes off the blade, throwing the used stuff into the trash.

"So," she says. "Probably ready to go now?" Glance at the blade. "Do you want to keep this?"

"It's probably best if you do, you can react with it faster than I can if anything happens. Plus, I have quite a few blades already."

"It should fit in my bag," she says, eyeing it. "Probably."

"You should probably get in the habit of carrying the more common kinds of magical weapons with you."

"Yeah," she agrees. "Might need a bigger bag, but I think I can make it work."

"Anyway," says Theo, "we should probably get out of here or get 'round to staking because I'd rather not have any more encounters with vampires tonight?"

"Very well." Norma gets her own stake and goes looking for other recent corpses to stab, because that's a splendid idea.

"What sorts of things actually work to stake the corpses? Would, like, wood splinters work, or does it have to be a big stake, and will it turn to dust if it's a vampire corpse, or if not does it work if you stake it before it wakes up, or…?"

"It needs to be large enough to actually penetrate the ribcage and reach the heart, and it'll turn to dust as long as it would have otherwise risen as a vampire later."

"Oh, cool, so we can just stab a bunch of them with a regular stake and be left with a bunch of corpses with weird holes in them and also a bunch of dust." Nod. "We should maybe see about getting a thinner stake or something, then, so it's less obviously 'who the hell is making holes in the corpses'?"

"Possibly why it's never been done before." The other possibility being that no one's ever thought of it before.

"I think I prefer 'this town has weird holes in its corpses' to 'this town has a large vampire population', though."

And he gets to staking.

Eva is already staking! Woo.

One of the corpses Ev stakes actually turns to dust!

"Got one," she says.

And then Norma gets one as well. And another one. And so does Theo.

And then they're through.

"Well. That was certainly productive." Considering look. "We should probably start doing this more regularly, then, if we can get four vampires before they even wake up."

… Then she looks slightly guilty, because what if one of them was a nice vampire.

"This would be uncommon even in a large city, but Sunnydale is an exception to these trends."

Nod.
