"As long it is words somehow," Henry beams at Liam and Lydia.

"Even if we can't get innate spells, can we specialize in certain things, make our spells more powerful, even if we have to read the book every time?"

"Oh, no. You might be completely reasonably people, but I don't trust you enough for that. But Scott's innate spell can get better and then you will have better healing, maybe even better than what I can do."

"Is there anything for explosions? Not like, big explosions."

"I like this kid priorities."

"Why do you need explosions for? Isn't America supposed to have a law that makes it easy to buy gunpowder?"

"High schoolers can't buy gunpowder that easily. Anyway, I'm thinking for something I could carry around in case of emergencies."

"Uh, is this a common kind of emergency?"

"Ignore him, he's kind of a weirdo."

"What spells are you comfortable sharing, Henry? Scott said you showed him a list of spells that you would give us?"

Henry produces his spell list.

"The green ones would have been useful." 

"Going forward, right? There won't be any less fights now that we have more magic." 

The speaker is the quiet girl who hasn't introduced herself properly. In fact, none of them have. 

"I can only hope so... Sorry, I don't remember your name."

"Malia Tate. Nice to meet you. I grew up in the woods so if I'm rude that's part of why. Also, I might not like you." 

"Ooh, straightforward and capable of realizing she can make terrible mistakes like not liking Henry. Scott, you make good friends."

"He mostly just kidnaps us."

"More like adopts. Werecoyote in need of a good home, explosive beta seeks alpha."

"Well, did he leave a rescue note asking it is clearly not kidnapping and therefore not objectionable at all."

"Werecoyote? Can I take a look magically?"

"You can look all you want," says the werecoyote, as she steps forward.

And Henry goes shiny with a halo around his head. Does Malia look significantly different from Scott in terms of were-species?

Not zero percent different, but pretty close. He can tell that there's a package of related things that are "being a werecoyote" which looks a lot like "being a werewolf".

There are differences, like this thing, which seems to be about who exactly can transform fully into animal form (Malia can, Scott and Liam can't), and this thing, which is about how more are made. Other than that, they both look equally snarly.  

Henry reports this, albeit he doesn't mention the "snarly" part.

"We're not the same," the girl scoffs, offended.
