Callie is arguing with the school administrator. "Are you sure I'm the one that has to do this? I mean, there are so many other more qualified people that could be here. Isn't there like a Welcoming Committee or something, like on tv?"

The woman behind the desk glares at her, "Miss Theirin, you have been specifically requested by the Principal. Now, there will be no more arguments. Sit down and wait until the new student arrives."

Callie glares at the woman and stomps over to the waiting area. "Stupid Principal."

Eventually, in comes the new student.

Callie takes note of the stranger, but doesn't budge from her seat.

The woman behind the desk smiles at him brightly. "Hello, young man. Are you Thomas Gray-Darling by chance?"

"Yes, exactly. I just moved in."

"Excellent! Well, here is your class schedule," she hands him a small stack of papers, "and a couple of forms that you need to get your teachers to sign before every class. That's just for today though. Your mother came in last week and took care of everything else, lovely woman!"

"Oh, that was likely my aunt Wendy, but good and thank you. Is there anything else?"

The woman shakes her head, "No dear, that was all. Please come back here after all your classes and we can finish everything then."

She then stares over his shoulder and mentions to Callie. "And this is Callie. She'll be your guide for today." She speaks directly to Callie at this, "She will meet you after all your classes and escort your wherever you need to go, won't you dear?"

Callie makes a face at her. "Yeah, sure, whatever." She stands up and goes towards the door, "You comin'?"

"Of course. I'm Thomas Ezra Gray-Darling."

"That's a mouthful. You got a nickname?"

"Just Thomas. You prefer Callie?"

"Cal, Callie, whatever floats your boat, really. A lot of people call me Cass too, but that's just because they mistake me for my sister. But I answer to that too."

"Twin sister or just very similar looking?"

"Identical twins, yeah. Super identical, we even have matching freckles."

"Heh, so how did you end up with the welcome commit job?"

"I got caught skipping class... a lot. So now the Principal is torturing me with random tasks as punishment. So cruel."

"Oh, I see. Any chance you could just tell me the routes to my classes and be done with it? I have a pretty good memory."

"I could, but the teachers are snitches and they all know I'm doing this today." She stops in the middle of the hallway. "Do you know what number your locker is?"

"Cool." They walks a little bit down the hallway and come to a stop in front of a locker. "You don't get a lock for it, the school has the big thing about 'Trust'. But like, don't leave anything valuable in there because some students are dicks."

"Yup. Most students use their cars, if they have one, instead of the lockers. Do you drive?"

"Yes. My aunt gave me her old car."

"Nice. You live with you aunt then, is that a recent thing?"

"Do you have a dark family past, Thomas Ezra Gray-Darling?" She's amused at his monosyllable answer.
