Lake Mithrim is calm after Utumno freezes. Researchers research, Kat and Catherine tear around like little monsters, wizards fly, Elves sing.
Lake Mithrim ripples. It now has three islands in it. One of them is an architecturally stunning music hall, distinctly Elven but with superior material sciences underlying its construction. The other is a house, not Elven at all, narrow and without any yard to it, just stairs to a few feet of sidewalk.
Isama, using the mirror to experiment with braids since the bathrooms are occupied and they have to do braids to go among Elves. Imeles and Hala playing cards while Elemi attempts destruction.
- muffle spell. "Uh Peka adores you anyway because she would but she also mentioned chemical burns and a 'bad night' and - they have such low expectations, all of them -"
"It's -" he shakes his head. "It's like if your mattress ripped and it was full of spiders -"
"You're five with three kids being raised by your magic slaves and your species beats children I really do not want to get into this."
"You have a Rebecca and they expect very nearly nothing from you and if you hurt them they blame themselves and you owed her better than that -"
" - she's not Catholic and she's not - whatever Beka was - I don't think - it's not like I hit her -"
"And left her cowering in a corner with chemical burns unsure whether you'd call in the police to beat her and your Catherine to death -"
"PAPA I want to go SWIMMING," yells Ana.
Ana goes out and jumps in the lake anyway. Isama chases her and drags her out.
A very distraught Makel comes down a couple minutes later to scold her - "Ana, you could die -" and thank Isama. He looks kind of miserable.
