Shana was sure of two things. This wasn't going to end well, and she couldn't afford to fail.

Father had been most insistent that she take care of this, and she supposed she could just be thankful that they were in the country of the thing he wanted 'taken care of'.

("You know what happens when people fail me, Shana," the memory of his words echoes.)

But she'd heard about the results of other attempts at this - the hunter becoming the hunted, becoming prey to the thing they were trying to kill. She wasn't sure how she was supposed to do better. (But she knew that she had to.)

Her targets were Vampire twins. Still young. An 'easier target', Father had said. Shana wasn't so sure, given what vampires were capable of. But she'd managed to track them down. Building some kind of structure in a bush. (There's a dead pig nearby, which she almost hopes wasn't their last meal, chances are they're stronger right after they've fed.)

She moves closer, getting ready to strike.

As it happens, the twins smelt Shana ages ago, and have dediced to wait and see what she's trying to pull.

"Sure is nice being a vampire, right bro?" says Tabby, carrying a large bundle of two-by-fours and suppressing a giggle.

"Oh yeah, totally should go and eat some people later. Nice people, with babies."

She doesn't really want to do this. But she can't not. Father is expecting her to succeed here. There isn't another option.

She is a little worried by how close she's managed to get, but right now, she isn't going to waste the opportunity. She slides her gun from its holster, not needing to check to know it was the explosive rounds she had in. (She has stakes as well, strapped neatly together against her back, but she's not going to use them unless this fails.) She could, hopefully, get one of them. She touches the crucifix she's wearing in a strangely superstitious gesture for luck from a god she doesn't even believe in.

She aims at the girl first, for the simple reason that she's closer. Pulls the trigger.

She dodges the round and in the blink of an eye is pulling the gun from Shana's hand. "Dance with me!"

Well. She retreats a couple of steps, giving herself space to move. Stakes it is. She pulls one free and lunges forward, feinting one way and twisting to actually attack from the other, aiming directly at the girl's chest. (She's trying to keep track of the boy as well, but she needs to concentrate.)

The stake is smashed to splinters against her bare chest. She giggles.

A pair of hands clasp her shoulders. "Boo!" says the boy in her ear.

She flinches even as her elbow slams backwards instinctively, and she tries to twist herself clear of his hands, her other hand scrabbling for the knife she had on her hip. She's not expecting it to work, but she has to try.

"...Wait, are you actually trying to kill us?"

"I was told to," she says, trying to get herself more room again. "I- I can't fail." She's shaking slightly.

"No offence, but you're kinda failing real hard right now. Who thought you'd be able to kill us, anyway?"

"I- my Father," she looks down, "I- he." She looks at the knife in her hand. "He said it would be easier," she sounds like she knew he was wrong about that. She drops the knife. Because there's really no point in fighting them. She isn't going to win. She's pretty sure she dies, because of these two, or because she failed. (She's shaking more now. She doesn't want to die.)

"Pretty brave of you to try. Silly, but brave."

"No choice," she shrugs again. "Would've- Would've been bad if I hadn't." She wraps her arms around herself and tries to stop shaking. "What happens now?"

"Well..." says Tabby, bouncing from foot to foot. "Mum says vampire hunters should have their heads taken off, but I'll tell you what, you can choose between that and becoming one of us."

"...Wouldn't you get in trouble?"

"Eh, maybe. But the worst our mummy might do is kill you. Sounds bad, but it's either that or die for sure."

At least it's a chance. "I'll- I don't want to die." And a small chance is better than none.

"Cool! Glad you're seeing sense. So, shall we get on with it?"

"Why wait? Um. What...happens?"

"Well, we feed you our blood till it tastes good, you fall asleep, we get you something to eat, you wake up, everything's awesome."

That sounds...almost too good to be true. But she's not about to argue. "Okay." She takes a hesitant step closer to them.

They lead her into the clubhouse-thing, and Zeke bites Tabitha's wrist, drawing blood. She winces. "Hate this part." She shoves her wrist in Shana's face. "Drink, before it heals up!"
