The Valar announce that they've done as much as they can in Singularity (they can't bring back peoples' babies in that critical period either, but they can get them earlier versions) and are setting up portals between there and Sanity as soon as they are confident they've cleaned up the plague. A bunch of Elf architects have this wild idea for a fivedimensional city where alternating intersections are interdimensional portals between various Valinors and they get eagerly to setting it up.
New Guinea. The news has picked it up soon enough. Some people were living in an abandoned house off the grid trying to avoid governments noticing them for a variety of reasons and an unmaintained heater exploded.
He doesn't need to sleep until he finishes med school. He sits down and starts reading.
Okay. That's okay.
He makes basement dwellers and he occasionally writes Cam with questions and he does medical school.
Don't dose by visible vein, you'll get too used to it and be confused if you ever treat somebody darker.
You okay? Did something happen?
One of the stories about the incident mentioned that they summoned a demon and did amputations with a hacksaw. He writes Cam's letterhead on the top of a copy of that one and tries dosing without visible veins.
Jesus Christ.
Must have been a preprint in an emergency kit or something, must not have had time to go through a medical angel list. Or didn't have one.
You did good.
Couldn't give them a medical angel list. Maybe I should keep one in a pocket or something.
I'm glad she didn't get someone who was a jerk. She was - good. Lots of people couldn't amputate limbs with a hacksaw even to save peoples' lives. She looked at me like -
- we should have new emergency kits printed with a script or something that suggests saying 'in exchange for magic interdimensional stuff' instead of 'whatever you can extract from me', I would be happy if no one were ever in a position to say that again.
Where would she have gotten the stuff in a timely manner? Also I doubt the kit said to say that.
What's the definition of a timely manner as usually relates to payment - emergency services got there within an hour or so - and I doubt it gave any guidance because without magic stuff there isn't good guidance to give but with magic stuff there is.
It isn't about time so much as earnest progress, which you can't do with things extradimensional saviors are going to bring you any minute now. An hour might be safe but two wouldn't.
Nod. Sigh.
He makes another video. It's mostly of the view of the city from the place he's made himself. "I took a summons in New Guinea. There'd been an explosion and they needed someone to give people new limbs. It was - I want to say it was horrible, but it was mostly horrible for people other than me, it seems silly to complain about how scary I found it. Anyway, I've been working through med school and it wouldn't have helped, the binding didn't let me do anything other than the new limbs, but I realized I don't think I'll be okay if I get summoned into some place where I could help if I knew enough, and I hadn't done demon med school yet because I was playing with the dragons. So that's what I've been up to lately, sorry it's been quiet."
He has Aaron post it for him; he checks the comments during breaks.
Some people heard about the explosion. That was him? Wow. Is he going to say that the binding should have let him do something other than new limbs? Is he going to look up the people he helped later?
No, actually, the binding for summoning an emergency random demon definitely should not let that demon drug people and drugging people before their limbs were amputated was the main thing he'd wished he could've done. It would've been good if he could have offered to get them a list of medical angels and to pay said medical angels, but no one extra died because he couldn't help them find angels, at least not this time.
He checked that the people were all okay and he checked that emergency services had gotten there and it wasn't, like, a war zone that no one had bothered mentioning needed humanitarian aid or something like that where it would have helped for him to fairy right over with a better summons and do reconstruction.
Well he hadn't thought so but you should have seen the place.
It's almost a month before he thinks to spy on Richard Moon again.
Richard Moon has answered some comments on his fanfiction. He has registered an opinion on the forum discussion about Imbrium dome-edge construction. He negatively reviewed a Martian barbecue restaurant.
