The Valar announce that they've done as much as they can in Singularity (they can't bring back peoples' babies in that critical period either, but they can get them earlier versions) and are setting up portals between there and Sanity as soon as they are confident they've cleaned up the plague. A bunch of Elf architects have this wild idea for a fivedimensional city where alternating intersections are interdimensional portals between various Valinors and they get eagerly to setting it up.
"Hasn't been tried, might work. You also don't get to pick if you're a demon or one of two other things."
"Angels and fairies, and as far as we know it's not a person sorting dead people."
"My theory is that it's about personality suitability to the magic powers and I do think you'd be a demon if I'm right."
"If you destroy all the backups and then kill yourself to test that I will be so terribly annoyed."
"We don't even need demons for anything! We're going to have a way to get to Endorë fast in a hundred Years anyway and what else even is there -"
"It's just the principle of the thing. And you said they might have language-learning magic powers."
"We do, but you still learn them the normal way really fast, it took me years to pick up a second language via actually learning it."
"I don't want magic language-learning powers because learning languages takes too long, I want them because magic. language-learning. powers."
"You make a compelling argument but I think you should like, sleep on it or something."
"We had twins just because I was curious what happened if you tried to have two babies at once!"
"Twins happen. They happen to humans all the time. Somebody pulled off octuplets once."
"I'm sure I can eventually find a husband who wants eight at once but you do not get to complain about how long it is taking and you have to convince your mother that I don't need to be married to become Queen."
"I should mention that this is in fact a terrible idea, it's probably less of a terrible idea for Elves but the human octuplets set a record when they survived their infancy."
"Risky for the moms too. I mean, this is because humans are a terrible species design and Elves are an improvement in almost every way, but you're still on a similar body plan and probably shouldn't try octuplets."
"Honestly I was contemplating waiting on children until we'd improved on childbirth."
