Athena hovers over the battlefield, surveying it from afar.

The war was... chaotic. Of course, that was the intended outcome. She expected that much from Eris. What she didn't expect was the sheer number of divine interventions involved. Plagues, curses, prophecies, blessings, it seemed every god had a personal stake in the war.

Hector was dead, Achilles was dead, Paris, who started this entire affair, was dead. The stalemate went on, and on, and showed no sign of ceasing.

The Greek fleet sails away from Troy.

She takes a closer look.

The fleet is missing several men, including one she knows for certain to still be alive.

They're not going to win this by playing fair. Odysseus has gotten off lucky so far (which may or may not be due to quite a bit of divine assistance). No one in his division has died, yet. But the army as a whole has lost some of their best men. They cannot afford to besiege Troy for another 10 years. He needs a way past the wall.

The beginnings of a plan form in his mind. It's not a good plan. Unfortunately, it's the best one he has, and, if he's right, he might get just a bit more divine favor to tip the scales.

He closes his eyes and prays.

I don't know if this plan will work.

I've exhausted all my other options

When the time comes, if something goes wrong,

Please. Help me.

They begin work on building a large wooden horse. The morning of the attack, he gathers his men together.

"Tonight, we end this war.

I know that we're all tired. It's been 10 years since any of us have seen our families. When we attack tonight, I want you to ask yourself, who are you fighting for? Who are you killing for? What drives you to go on, what's so important that you have to live for, that pushes you to win at any and all costs?

I know my answer."
