"Masses is also a faction that I have no reference to," Epimetheus continues, slightly coolly.

She considers the situation, drops the hold signal. "Epimetheus," she provides.

Prometheus moves forward to join them, scanning the newcomer both visually and with his sensors. "Prometheus," he introduces himself with a slight nod.

:I have updated Sir on what is going on,: he provides silently. :He is having tea.:

"You mentioned an apocalypse tier event? Can you clarify so that we can confirm?"

"Public databases?" she suggests as an alternative to Epimetheus. "Apologies for the jargon."

She considers them for a moment. "I can. Do you have public encryption keys?"

"I was not using the public databases," Epimetheus says calmly. She does not, however, mention just how many different classified databases she was in fact querying.

She doesn't look at Prometheus, :Assessment?:

He considers that, :Seems clear. Public encryption keys only.:

And he transmits both to Ms Adareif.

And she sends a set of images, encrypted with those keys.

A what-has-to-be-several-miles-long-by-the-skyline many-headed serpent fighting... something... over Kyoto. A wave that looks like a painting come to life, quite literally. A street strewn with bodies as well as broken glass and water damage, some of them freezing despite the utter unsuitedness of the environment. A monster, beating against a tetrahendron of electrified barbed wire and a circle of smoke and fire, with unnatural waves everywhere, in... is that the Imperial Palace Garden?

A hurricane, and a... sword? in the center.

The serpent again, hanging still in the sky, its eye opening.

Both Epimetheus and Prometheus look immediately to the sky, run quick self-diagnostics and confirm that their sensors are in fact functioning correctly, and there is not some horrendous monster in the sky above them.

"That seems less than ideal," Epimetheus says after a moment.

"Quite," Prometheus agrees, "although Epimetheus continues to have quite the gift for understatement. But we can assure you that no such thing has happened here in Kyoto in the past three weeks, two days-" he stops himself before he gives the entire time period. "I believe we would have noticed it. And there has been no other reports of such an event anywhere else in the world."

She is silent for a long moment. "No gaps in your memory, unexplained events...?"

They both go unnaturally still.

Epimetheus manages to respond first. "Not in the past three weeks," she says, voice bland. "And before that there are no gaps that we have not been able to verify from other sources. No inexplicable events to my knowledge."

She stills, too. That looks -- similar to the way she reacts when --

She ends that line of thought. Tries to focus on the matter at hand (except something about that question touched on something traumatic for them...) "I apologize," she says aloud.

"No apology necessary," Prometheus asserts. "Given the vast difference between your prior experience of Kyoto and the current state of our surroundings, might I ask if you have any gaps in your memory?"

:Potential host for artificial environment?: he sends to Epimetheus.

:Potentially. Images did not have any embedded identifiers for a creator.: Not to mention the fact that there had been no suggestion of any company creating an AGI to act as host. And they certainly wouldn't have been careless enough to lose it.

She goes silent for a long moment once again, running the relevant diagnostics. "Nothing within the past few years," she says eventually.

Epimetheus doesn't look away from e92ada0f. :Distraction does not account for unknown AGI. We had systems in place to alert us to any attempts to create another AGI.: Because they didn't want what happened to them to happen to someone else.

Prometheus considers that. "Date check? It is currently the twenty-fourth of April, twenty-one-sixty-three."

She goes completely still for several seconds, and then double-checks her internal clock and rattles off a date and time down to the second.

It is almost entirely wrong, of course. But particularly notable is that the year she gives is 2016.

There is a brief pause, as both Epimetheus and Prometheus process that.

:Time travel certainly has not been invented.:

Prometheus repeats that, unsure why Epimetheus thinks it is not something that should be said aloud. Although she does not make any comment on him mentioning it.

"I can also confirm that we would have been aware if there had been a serpent in the sky in our history. AGI development had not begun in twenty sixteen."

:We cannot leave her alone.:

"It had," she replies quietly. "if not publicly.. but... a hundred forty-seven years."

e92ada0f falls silent again, looking more than a little lost.

"As for time travel," she begins, after a little bit, and then breaks off again. (She shouldn't talk about that.)

"Given our interest in the subject, had investigation into the matter of AGI development happened, we would have been aware of it. "

Given the lack of corresponding data they seem to have between them, it's no wonder she looks lost. :Someone would find and exploit her,: she agrees with Prometheus. :Still need more data.:

She repeats the head tilt move that seems to signify both curiosity and intent focus. "That implies that you seem to believe that time-travel is indeed a thing."

Prometheus meanwhile is pursuing a different thread of thought. Because the more data they received, the less things added to a logical conclusion for their current frame of reference.

:Potential dimensional shift - theory that there are infinite numbers of universes.: Epimetheus' acknowledgement is skeptical.

She pulls up the file (barely any information, at her clearance, and most of it pre-Anomaly, but annotated with the rumors she had heard) she has on the Chrononauts, skims it, and then discards it from her attention. "I know very little; that it is possible, yes. But primarily that the project had an extremely high fatality rate."

She does not comment on their interest in AGIs, or Epimitheus's remark about knowing about their development, except to say, after a moment, "Do you have -- non-classified -- timeline of events in--" her voice cracks slightly, "1999 through 2015?"

Prometheus starts to send a file immediately. Epimetheus stops him, highlighting the few points she thinks are valid.

1999 was, on the whole, relatively boring - NATO commenced air bombardment on Yugoslavia on March 24th, but that seems to be the only major event.

September 11th 2001, multiple terrorist attacks, the World Trade Towers were brought down, and the Pentagon attacked by planes. As the year ended, the 'War on Terror' began, and the United States of America invaded Afghanistan.

March 19th 2003, Great Britain and the United States of America invade Iraq.

July 7th 2005, London bombings.

September 10th 2008, Large Hadron Collider at CERN becomes operational.

August 19th 2010, American troops withdrawn from Iraq.

Feburary 11th 2011, culmination of the Egyptian Revolution.

April 15th 2013, bombing at the Boston Marathon.

(Accounts of the form of war and the methods used for the terrorist attacks are also highlighted to hopefully provide a comparison.)

After a while Ekuni sends a timeline back, with events not in their timeline highlighted.

A vaccine was developed for a nasty fluid-borne diease in Egypt in 1999. Some kind of massive natural disaster occurred June 28 to July 4 1999, across India and Bangladesh.

Mount Oyama was discovered to be a volanco when it erupted in August of 2000.

Los Angeles suffered a 7.2 magnitude earthquake October 30 2002, and looting and riots followed.

And so on. Mostly disasters, but also smaller differences, including a number of references to a company known as 'Pentax' and subsidiaries thereof, as well as other companies. doing things.
