"What do they usually pop you for? Illegal bounty hunting?"

"That, and wire fraud, arson, larceny, burglary, assault and battery, lese-majesty, murder... And vandalism."

"Vandalism?"

Dramatic sigh. "I carved my name into one moon..."

"At what fuckin' font size?"

Shrug. "Readable from the planet?"

"Damn," she chuckles. "That's pretty impressive."

"There were some high powered lasers - and a lot of evasive maneuvers - involved."

"Were you doing cursive or did they start chasing halfway through?"

Smugly: "Both."

"Nice."

"You ever done anything that cool?"

"Man, I knock over, fucking, freighters for a living. The occasional luxury liner whose captain is too drunk to watch the nav charts. The biggest thing is probably... once we took over a city for like, a week."

"Wait, how big a city? And what do you mean 'took over'?"

"I dunno, like five hundred thousand people or something? Some shitty little backwater was having some dumbass succession dispute. One of the guys involved used to run with the Ravagers, so he called us in. We blasted a couple picket boats, stormed the governor's mansion, did martial law, curfews, the whole bit."

"And got kicked out after a week?"

"The guy ran out of money. Everyone else running the place was just as corrupt as him and had already siphoned everything out of the treasury."

She laughs. "Pretty damn bad at planning, too."

"Yyyyep."

"Probably would've been cheaper just to assassinate all his competition. Or go set up somewhere else."

"Nah, too stubborn and proud to be that smart."

"You got paid, at least?"

"Yeah, he fronted the week's worth in advance."

"His mistake, your payday."

"That's the best way around for those things to be."
