- she barely has time to meet his eyes before she hits the ground.
There's a discontinuity in time, and then - her chest hurts - she's lying down - can she breathe, one breath, another -
That depends on what you mean by that. You didn't... do anything... to this Mage Armor, right? It's a normal Mage Armor?
"Mage Armor has not been substantially improved since 4218, when the great wizard Fahalzar figured out how to make it both first circle and last hours; previously there was a first circle version of shorter duration and a second circle version with long duration! The second circle spell Mage Armor was developed during the Seventh Army of Exploration's conquest of what is now Isger in 3133, and the date of the development of the inferior first circle version is not well attested!"
But you didn't do anything to it and the version you are going to cast is the kind that has been used safely for many years?
"My experiments have not yet revealed a superior form of Mage Armor! It is not obvious there are further optimizations to be made, as it is already a first circle spell of long duration."
"They say that the forces of the demons are led by a lilitu, but demons never really have leaders, they're all feuding with each other. We can handle it."
That might make them safer but only because they are by default so unsafe that the increased variance could help and the downside risk is to so much more than their personal safety.
Onward.
