Nyanko snickers. "That's not Reiko, Nanami," she calls out.

"What? Who are you, you mutant tanuki?" She doesn't let go of Tsubaki.

"M- Who are you calling a mutant tanuki?!"

"Don't worry, Reiko-chan," she says sincerely, "I'll protect you from this marauding youkai."

"...That's Nyanko-sensei. And I'm not Reiko. Can you let me go, please?"

"Not Reiko?" She pulls her head back just enough to look at Tsubaki. "But you look like her... and they said Natsume needed me..."

Nyanko's moping, and annoyed, and there's something hurt in the air that Tsubaki is barely able to pick up on and Nanami probably can't feel at all. And she's annoyed enough to bluntly snap, "Reiko's dead. That's her granddaughter. A different Natsume."

She lets go of Tsubaki. "Reiko's... dead? But-"

"She never called me."

...She looks away. "Reiko never called anyone."

Sad youkai time.

She's quiet.

"So if Reiko's dead... then you have the Book of Friends now?"

"That's right. My name's Tsubaki, I'm her granddaughter."

"Granddaughter... I see. Well, Tsubaki. You can call on me any time."

Heavy sigh.

"Speaking of which! What do you need now?"

"She's being possessed, by a youkai she doesn't just want to banish."

"Hmm. Tricky."

She explains the issue with the illness, too - and her thought that a vessel like her own could serve.

Probably, though it'll need to be spiritually resonant. Easier to construct than a koto though, that's for sure.

And something that can play the koto would be very much ideal.

What's that need, just arms, maybe a lap?

(Fingers, on those arms. Delicate, graceful fingers.)

Can do.

She's grateful for all of them.
