Saving candy for later???? But that would take valuable time away from eating candy NOW.

"It's so sweet," he says. "It tastes like-- I've never had anything like it."

"Tastes like something I've never had in my life," she says, and the difference is that her phrasing puts a little emphasis on I and my, putting the quiet little thought into the heads of everyone listening that that's because someone else got the candy all the time they should have had candy, because they grew up on Garbage Island.

Get the point, Wei Wuxian? For exactly who you want revenge on?

No, wait, of course he doesn't.

"Common in Auradon?" she says.

"Very common," the driver says.

"I think you guys should throw it out more!" Tetley says cheerfully.

Tetley is actually really helpful!

... Can it really be a coincidence? Maybe it can't be. She's going to pay a lot more attention to Tetley than Uma did, that's for sure.

"Where are you going to drop us off?"

"...didn't they tell you?"

"'Auradon' was all they said."

"You're going to Auradon Prep, the finest school in Auradon. The children of all the greatest nobles and heroes in the land go there."

Alida can't help it: She just starts laughing, like all this is some insane sort of dream. The laughter is deep (for a teenage girl) and manic, and it keeps going on and on and on, uncontrollably, until it like she's going to run out of air. It's ridiculous, it's unbelievable, it's pointless and absurd -

"Why?" she eventually manages, before achieving breath.

You and me both, crazy-girl-who-is-probably-my-new-boss, you and me both.

(What snaps her out of it Is the realization that, actually, it might be a dream. This is a pretty dreamlike thing to have happen. Is she sure she subjectively experienced all of the inter time? Has her set of companions changed in the last few minutes? Do numbers of things remain constant, such as candies - OK, no, you wouldn't expect that to remain constant - such as, uh, her fingers?)

She has a constant number of fingers and companions!

"King Ben thought that being around heroes would make it easier for you to learn how to be good."

Tetley is grateful that she's going to get a good education and have things that rich people have, like beds. And she can find out what celebrities are like in real life!

Wei Wuxian says something but his mouth is too full of candy to tell what it is.

Alida does not know what good is, not really, other than "the other side." She does not know what evil is, other than her side. She does, however, have a clearly established concept of "people who help you who you therefore owe favors to", and "people you destroy because they have wronged you," and the idea that King Ben might possibly think she would choose to cooperate with him instead of - did she have the choice - introducing him to Harry Hook, a flensing knife, and her very best wishes seems very strange to her.

But in retrospect surrounding her with heroes, who can presumably fight reasonably well and have at some point in their lives defeated villains, is actually a reasonable deal, since they will after all be much better at handling her than some nobody would be. You win this round, King Ben, you win this round.

At some point someone will surely notice that this entire situation is nonsense but maybe if he stays very quiet he can get a good lead on them first.

With no more questions to answer, the driver is going to Keep Driving.

They land on Auradon soil. It is clean, and colorful, and full of green things, and enormously tall buildings, and people that none of them have ever met before.

Wow.

This was their birthright, until it was stolen from them.

She will remember exactly what was taken from her, and she will have her revenge.

"So, mister limo driver, any advice on how to not act like aliens? Since we've never been here before, and all?"

"Well, I don't know what villain kids are like," he says. "Try not to shove so much candy in your face."

Wei Wuxian mutters something incomprehensible.

"I'll consider it," Alida says drily, while she continues to eat candy at a much more dignified pace. "You can tell us about the kids at 'Auradon Prep', though, you know about them."

(Also: she's going to school. Seriously? School is for the villains who people think matter, so they can learn the skills they need to rule the world. What is King Ben thinking teaching her anything that would make her stronger?)

"They're good kids. They don't dirty up the car and they tip well."
