"Curiosity," she says, "And a desire to - find somewhere very different from where I was."

"Do you intend to stay for very long?"

"Likely not as the elves measure it, but - a good time, at least. Long enough to know if this is where we've been looking for."

"Excellent. We are always pleased to host visitors, and these are exciting times in the jewelcrafter's guild. You will not lack for entertainment, I think."

"Thank you."

"What's going on that's exciting?"

"We are exploring new paradigms of enchantment. The details are- quite technical, but the upshot for you is a time of unprecedented productivity and creativity in designs."

"I can comment on aesthetics, if nothing else."

"Certainly not an area to neglect."

"One of the good points of the city."

"Indeed. And in celebration of that beauty, can I offer a gift to you and your lady? Matching bracelets, perhaps."

More shy smile, and she glances at Sulumithil. "What do you say, Thulmith?"

"I think we're hardly in a position to refuse such generosity, Narnel. And it would be lovely to have a keepsake..."

She laughs. And, to Celebrimbor: "We'd be honored."

"Then if you'll follow me to the display rooms, we'll see if we can't select something suitable..."

Onwards, then.

Meanwhile...

Celebrimbor's insights have accelerated her work dramatically - but there's projects she's not ready to tell the Elf about. Not yet.

Projects like this one. A simple golden band with light cursive etching that will fade when power doesn't flow through it - a circle containing and channeling and amplifying the fragment of her Power and Will that she pours into it.

It's tricky. Lightweight as a structure, half motivated by pure intent - but she thinks that intent is key to its flexibility...

Annatar puts the final touches on her Ring, and slips it on her finger, reaching out to the little ember of a soul in it through osanwe.

'Hello.'

'Hello, mistress. How may I serve?'

She rubs her finger over the Ring's smooth band, delighted.

'You may tell me what you can perceive, beautiful thing.'

She sees the souls of those in the area, (her mistress burning brightest above all) the fires of Elves, the candles of Dwarves, the sparks of Men. She tastes the streams of social connection binding the populace together, the tang of pride, sour jealousy, bitter hate, sweet love. She hears the whispered Songs of power as they wash across the world, the humming tangle of the jewelcrafters' collection, the soft chorus of the Elves' workings upon this city, the deep basso lullaby of the earth sleeping below.

'Wondrous.'

'It is your skill that has made me so.'

'Of course. And you are a beautiful testament to that skill.'

The ring fairly radiates pleasure.

Loveliest thing.

She has a few more questions to ask, to investigate the outcome of her assorted workings...

The ring will do everything it can to answer all her questions.
