"Yeah, I have no idea what her network of contacts looks like."

"Well, she must have one. You don't get to her power level without acquiring one unless you're much too much of a hermit to agree to teach here."

"Is this person, like, probably already on it, or do we need to go talk to her."

"Under the circumstances I would not be shocked if she was divining this but I should at least email her." She pulls out her phone.

"I've talked to my mom; she'll be here in a bit, but Ying'er is fussing so it'll be at least a few minutes."

"A few minutes probably will not make the difference but one of my grandfathers almost certainly committed suicide over my sister and I am fond of all my remaining grandparents."

"One of your--what?"

"I had a sister. She died. Daduji killed himself. Probably. Not much else gets a grownup wizard."

"--Why does anyone have descendants in a situation with that kind of survival rate if they're going to kill themself over a fatality?"

"Good fucking question!"

"I think he was specifically upset about how little she'd gotten to do in the time she had, cooped up in the warded house, before she got fed up and went out the window and got eaten."

"Wow. Okay. Well, Mom should only be a couple of minutes but, uh, if one of your remaining grandparents fails to remain, Arch-Curatives are expensive but they're the kind of expensive you have to spend years saving up for, not the kind only the one percent ever touch."

"Good to know, thank you."

After a few minutes, a rectangle appears in thin air, and a woman in a pristine white hanfu steps through, the opening vanishing barely late enough to avoid clipping off any of her heel.

Her eyes scan coolly over the whole group, lingering only briefly on her daughter, before settling on the trio of extradimensional visitors.

"Hello."

"Hello. What have you already been told?"

"You're from a universe full of horrible monsters which result in one in twenty magical children surviving to adulthood, except in a pocket dimension school, where the survival rate is one in four instead. You have just graduated from said school and would like to return to your universe before your families decide you are dead, and also use our magic to improve the survival rate further."

And also the horrible monsters are apparently VERY SNEAKY and persistent in getting through portals into places, which is why she gated through half-a-dozen airlocked portals between her home, which contains her minor not-yet-witches children, and here.

"Our families have had plenty of time already to decide we are dead, we just want to, like, interrupt them at that."

"I'm Aadhya and these are Bella and Caio."

"Mn. Condolences."

She doesn't really want to think about A-Sao being dead, but also she wouldn't have had A-Sao in a world with a seventy-five to ninety-five percent fatality rate???

Another doorway opens in midair, and Belladonna and Felicity step and flutter through respectively.

"I expect we are ready to begin?" the gorgon asks.

"--Spying on people is rude, you know."

"It's a public space," the gorgon shrugs.

"Do you need us to do anything?"

"Depends. We're going to Antarctica; can you handle the elements yourselves, or are we going to need to handle that."

"I could if I had a lab and half an hour!"
