In which Timothy Bartholomew Delgado fucks up. A lot.

Timothy's widely of the opinion that anytime you can accelerate healing you should accelerate healing.

So it's not a surprise that when an injured esper is willing to guide him for a bit in exchange for focused healing, he takes the man up on it!  They only make out a little bit, and Tim learns that he doesn't actually prefer full beards.  Looking at them: fine.  Petting them: fine.  Getting them near his nose?  Not so fine.

He has a pretty strong sneeze reflex, it turns out.  And when he's laying underneath someone and sneezes, his head jerks backwards.  Into the pillow.  Through the pillow.  Into the rug-over-concrete floor of the healing silo.

His head is fine!  His brain is fine!  The rug is fine!  The pillow is basically fine!

But based on the grindy noises from below the rug, the concrete underneath the rug is not fine.

Tim's leaving the restroom, having concluded his business.  He's zipping up as he walks out, and hip-bumps the door.  It's one of those L-shaped handles, the kind that can easily be caught on a belt loop.

Unbeknownst to Timothy, that's exactly what happened.  He keeps walking, and doesn't realize that he's still attached to something.  When the beltloop restrains him, he reflexively ticks on his power and attempts to muscle through it.

He muscles through it!  He takes the door with him.

Tim's talking to an old friend and showing off a little bit of his power.  He's wearing a dress shirt.  Since he's making esper money, he wants to go to a nice restaurant.  And he's showing off the copper rod trick he loves so much!

Unfortunately, Tim tightened his top button.  And he's filled out a bit since becoming an esper.  That shirt is really tight on him, which is flattering and he likes how it looks on him.  But flexing in a shirt that's just a little too tight while you're preternaturally strong is not good for the shirt.

Rrrrip.

Tim's on the range, practicing 'pulsing' his strength in time with the recoil from his overly-large pistol.  He's having a pretty good day!  He's only a little tired when he gets a phone call while firing.  He leaves his power running without thinking about it.

He goes to grab the phone and bumps it off the counter on accident.  He recovers and grabs the phone with his other hand, tight tight tight so it doesn't fall!  The phonescreen cracks.

He's barefoot, heading into the shower for the day.  His pro partner's been delayed a little bit by an emergency, so he's got a decent backlash load going on.  Esper coordination or no, when people get tired, they make mistakes.

In this case, Tim's mistake is that his little toe is on a collision course with the tile of the shower.  Tim realizes this and reflextively pulses his power on because he does not want to hurt his little toe!!  Stubbing your toe hurts!!!

Thirty minutes later, his agent is paying an invoice for a tiler to replace a shattered tile.

He's back on the gun range, working on his marksmanship using his ridiculously oversized pistol.  He thinks he's pulling the trigger.  Unfortunately, he's actually squeezing the trigger guard.  The trigger guard deforms and snaps.  His finger goes right through and squeezes the trigger through the shattered remains of the trigger guard.

At least he hit the target, though!

Tim's in a pretty decent position.  He's on top of his sparring partner, they're both a little juiced and he's keeping the buff level steady.  But superstrength isn't actually useful if you don't have leverage to apply it.  He's working to keep one of his opponent's legs off the ground so they can't buck him off.

His opponent is trying to choke him out with the collar of his gi.  His opponent's right hand is holding the left side of his collar across his neck, going for a blood choke.  It's pretty effective, but Tim thinks that - ohshit.

His opponent has managed to bounce off the ground, wrap his left arm around the back of Tim's neck, grab Tim's gi, and is now choking Tim all the way.  He desperately tries to tuck his chin in so that he's not unconscious within twenty seconds and -

Rrrriiipppppp.

His gi breaks across his chin.  A gi is rated for grown men trying to choke each other out with it.  It's not rated for superstrength.  And it just tore.

It's the early days of the Montpelier Recuperative Care and Rehabilitation Facility.  Their plan, such as it is, is to dump in like twenty people in the same room while Tim lets his power do the work.

There's only minimal safety guidelines, because safety guidelines are written in blood and nobody's bled yet.

Samantha Brock, DRT Operative, broke her arm falling in a dungeon.  Tim offers guaranteed spots to first responders, and she won the lottery.  Her arm is itchy under the cast, and she knows to leave her itchy arm alone but the cast is coming off in a few hours anyway, right?  Surely it can't be that bad.

She digs her fingers in under the cast and oh, that's so much better, it feels so good to be able to scrat -

Crack.

In her zeal to itch her arm underneath the cast, she has shattered the cast.  It costs about twenty minutes of time while the nurses figure out what the fuck you do when a patient break their own cast.  In the end, they just tape the pieces of the cast back together and scold her.

Falalay is having a pretty okay day, considering everything.  They just got out of surgery for a nasty case of muscle ossification following a fall, and four hours in an abandoned movie theatre is projected to give them a few months of healing time.  And so three and a half hours passes, but they really just want to stand up and stretch.  They're wearing some nice jeans that are maybe a little tight and maybe this was a mistake given the whole surgery-earlier-today situation but they're recovering, not invalid.  And their ass looks great in it!

They stand up and do a couple of hip circles just to get the blood flowing.  Under normal circumstances, the button on their jeans keeps them from moving beyond a certain point.

Under the effect of superstrength, the button gives out.  It snaps off, pings across the room, and shatters a television screen.

This time tomorrow, the surviving television screens will be covered with Lexan shields.

Prince is playing a ragebait video game.  One of those fiendishly difficult platformers that drops you back at the beginning when you fall.  He keeps FALLING and he's been STUCK ON THIS SECTION for AGES and it takes TWENTY FIVE MINUTES to get back if you do EVERYTHING PERFECTLY and he knows he should just GIVE UP but he's going to GIVE IT ONE MORE TRY.

He falls.

He can't stand up.  His PIECE OF SHIT KNEE is broken and they had to rip out the GODDAMN STEEL PLATES to benefit from the regen and he's FURIOUS ABOUT IT and even though he's at the legal limit for painkillers they WON'T DO HARDLY ANYTHING because FUCKING GENETICS and before he knows what's happening, he hurls the controller into the wall.  It shatters, everywhere - plastic shards flare out.  It's like a really weaksauce fragmentation grenade.

He barely keeps his position in the program, but he has to shell out for an anesthesiologist to put him under general anesthesia for the remaining two days he needs to recover.

All told, the broken controller costs him, personally, six figures.  It's worth it to him to be able to walk properly again, but Prince's husband has several choice words for him when he gets out.

... Tim does feel a little uneasy about that one.  If the guy hadn't had surgery specifically so that he could recover from Tim's facilities, he'd've just kicked the dumbass out.  After rotating his thoughts while jogging, he figures out what bothered him.  This dumbass had basically bought his way back into the program - a DRT op wouldn't have been able to pay an anesthesiologist, her assistant, and the setup they'd needed out of pocket.

Well, when he pays off his bridge loans, he'll be able to set up some nonprofits and feel less guilty about taking bribes to make up for awful behavior.

A dungeon took half of the toes on Micah's left foot.  This might be a career-ending injury, but a new healing esper could give him a second lease on the dungeoneer lifestyle.  Micah is willing to suffer through pain and physical therapy.

But it turns out that regrowing bones is incredibly itchy.  For hours.  Days.  He grips the arm of his wheelchair, and indelibly impresses a handprint on the right arm of the wheelchair.

He's too embarrassed to admit it at first, but he's a good part of the reason that there end up being soft metal scraps in one section of the MRCRF.  They become fidget toys for people who can't use normal ones.

Tim's at the range.  Carol's not around to guide him, but it's his day off, and he's only pulsing his power on while actually firing the pistol.  It'll be negligible backlash accumulation, less than a second per round fired.  He's training using his oversized pistol.  He's not having a great day for shooting, sadly.  So he switches from focusing on pulsing his power to accuracy.

He pays for it by mistiming.  He forgets to augment himself, and pulls the trigger.

"I'll only use my power when pulling the trigger" turns into "power use for several minutes and a left-handed image search for wrist anatomy, so I can figure out how to set my wrist into approximate position and save on backlash healing my broken wrist".  He feels done for the day after that, but chooses to get in a few more magazines of practice, just to prove that he can.
