Rosita solicits this from a colleague by call button rather than leave the room and be unavailable for plausible imminent bathroom emergencies.

It is very fortunate that using the bathroom is an automatic enough ritual that Vivian can basically manage wiping and flushing and washing her hands without understanding how any of these steps are connected to each other or how any of them are relevant to her getting cranberries.

This does not mean she is going to exit the bathroom. She needs a plan for figuring out how to escape her kidnappers and it's currently really hard to plan.

Is there a window?

"Has she been able to use words like please? She really isn't talking like herself... She's very articulate, usually."

The bathroom is windowless!

"She doesn't seem to be able to use more than one word for a thought. Sometimes they're pretty fancy words but 'please' I don't think I've heard. That could just be that she's not feeling so polite," says Rosita.

"Is that normal for concussions or should we be worried about some kind of brain damage?"

Anything in the bathroom she could use to defend herself? Will the toilet paper dispenser come off the wall?

"It's a bit weird. Confusion irritability and forgetfulness aren't weird, but everyone's reaction is a little different."

Can she maybe pull the toilet seat off the toilet if she yanks it hard enough?

Wow, she's pretty strong! She can get it to wobble in a way it was probably not designed for! She can't get it all the way off and is in more pain now for probably no reason.

Yeah, probably no reason. Vivian can't think of any reasons for that. She will sit down on the floor for a minute though and cough a few miserable coughs while she thinks about her next steps.

How do people normally escape being kidnapped? She vaguely remembers a tutorial about how to poke out a car's tail light from the inside of a car boot, but that doesn't seem very relevant to her current situation.

Her shoe could be a weapon maybe if she swung it by the bootlaces. She saw a guy do that in a bar once. (She didn't see it for very long because she rapidly decided to leave.)

"It's a bit weird? Do you need to do more.... scans? Um, shine a light in her eyes, I know they do that for concussions..."

"Her chart says," Rosita has had time to look at the whole chart; Vivian needs someone supervising her at all times but not actually a lot of tasks done, "that her pupillary response was normal once they managed to get one, but that sometimes happens in concussions."
