It's not unheard of for the witches Addy mentors to try to kill her. Some people are just sociopaths (she would know!) and go for it because their secret has been found out, or because she rubs them the wrong way, or because the nature of their witchcraft lets them get a whiff of her body count and they are vengeful and/or scared. But they don't get very far, because she is a vampire. Almost all the witches she hangs out with are humans! And the ones with offensively useful powers do not also have divinatory powers, so she never has to worry about someone who could make a creditable attempt at killing her and really knows they should.

Alas, not all witches are humans. On this particular occasion she's sniffed out a newborn and his mate who's just turned him.

Vampires as a group have no reason to object to her practice of eating people, of course, since they do the same thing. It's something else that sets them off. She's not actually sure what. It's not like she took the newborn's arm off to help his mate wrangle him when they ducked into a town for clothes. Three is not an unstable coven size, so it shouldn't be just that she's there. She wasn't fucking either one of them or trying to. But one day, when she wasn't even done stretching that power out to its fullest, they turn on her, and she might have the newborn's witchcraft but she doesn't have backup.
