If it's just the hezrou, the fort can maybe handle it with some casualties but no serious operational consequences, but hezrous are only mostly solitary and you can't rely on demons doing what they mostly do. The commander gives the order to read off a Sending scroll calling for a strike team before he heads out to be ready to meet the thing in battle.
Yeah, there's a lot of steps here. "I'm talking to him next. But... if he says yes?"
He looks at her for a while. (She's so earnest, here and now. No hint of her usual charms.)
"I need to think about it, and pray on it." he says, finally, shrugging. "But... if you can get Rowen's approval... it would be awfully romantic." He smiles a bit. "I didn't think of you as the type to get married, Urdina." She always seemed she was like too much of an adventurer to settle down, just like Demonscourge.
"...and so I'd like to borrow Marit, for a day, if you can spare him," she finishes, with a tiny smile.
"You know," he says thoughtfully, drumming his fingers against each other, "I seem to remember that the last time we talked, I asked about you and Commander Artigas, and you were very quick to reassure me that it, and I quote, wasn't like that."
..heh. "...I do remember saying that, yes."
(She shrugs lightly, but doesn't say anything else. He wants an explanation, obviously, and he'll get one. But she's not the only one enjoying this little song and dance, here.)
"So you might understand that I'd find it confusing, when not two months later, you show up on foot, immediately unleash your bardly wiles on your quite handsome ex to get a Sending from one of his party members, and then come to me and tell me you want to borrow a fifth circle wizard and also my best paladin for a day so that you can get married tomorrow. To Commander Artigas."
She starts replying almost immediately. "In no particular order: I wasn't actually playing with anyone's feelings, earlier - I was actually that distressed about the possibility of not being able to get back to or in touch with Select Artigas before he left for the archmage-sponsered chaos brewing in Westcrown. Tural is a dear friend and the type of man who'll do that type of favor for his friends. You aren't technically in command of Kiki or Siki, so what they choose to do with their unpledged spells is up to them, and my understanding is that they have not been asked for all their fifth circles tomorrow or the one we used for the Sending just now."
Deep breath. "I told you half of why I was here on foot, when we talked earlier this week, but the other half was me taking some time away from #11 - from Blai - to be very sure of myself, before I asked him to marry me." Small smile. "My former commander did tell me to be careful, after all, and I respect his opinion even when we don't always see eye to eye."
Her grin widens. "And yes, Tural is quite handsome, though I don't think he's your type. Too... dispositionally Chaotic. "
He mostly manages to keep a straight face, but he knows he can't really hide his amusement from her.
"...and Marit?"
"-well, sir, formalized marriage in Infernal Cheliax was mostly an exercise in adversarial Asmodean contract-writing, and as far as I can tell it's both rare and heretical for Chelish relationships to not be adversarial. A wise person who lived there for their entire life might, if asked to wed a foreigner, want to get some outside perspectives on the topic, first, including one from the country run by the church of his new god."
Rowen stares at her in silence for a long time.
"You're sure he's been summoned by the archmages, and means to depart imminently?" he asks, finally.
-nod. "He told me via Sending that he's leaving by Teleport sometime tomorrow."
(...Rowen looks like he's planning something, but she doesn't have any guesses what, yet.)
He nods thoughtfully. "Okay. I will need to do some logistics work, but assuming there are no major surprises there... I expect to grant your request, on one condition."
Usually "irregular" supply means "late" but it is never impossible for it to instead mean "early". Blai makes sure the night shift and all other applicable parties know not to let the wizard go before he's ready. He has Grec's promotion formally hashed out in front of a quorum in the dining hall. He sends out the redundant copies of all the letters he needs to distribute about the promotion and his own reassignment and the status of the fort in general. He packs, and determines that unless the supply wizard brings them crossbow bolts instead of half the rice he shouldn't spend any weight on the crossbow itself. He attempts to pre-cope with the stupid feelings he will have if he learns Marriage Facts which mean he can't actually go through with it for some reason somehow and fails utterly at this task and winds up perseverating idiotically about it instead. He checks fully eight times on the lute to make sure it has not come down with some kind of sudden onset lute disease. He sits silently in a few of Grec's meetings with other officers and with an adjacent fort's commander who comes through, to make sure those go smoothly and the handoff won't be awful and Grec won't immediately be couped by somebody who thinks second circle isn't good enough to have a command (it basically isn't but the Wound is closed and it's not a well-circled fort and Grec will plausibly push over the edge with more on his plate). He would take a patrol to go get some last channeling at a neighbor fort done but he doesn't know exactly when to expect Venn - "tomorrow" could mean a lot of things to different people and sunrise itself may be different where she is and ideally he would sleep at some point. At some point, he sleeps.
The call of "Commander?" from the hall patrol in a voice that suggests - not an emergency but something confusing - does. (Grec's going to rely on his night shift for this kind of thing, because Grec's a wizard, but for tonight Blai's still here -)
He gets out of bed and opens the door.
And Venn is there, apparently.
"I'm back a bit early," she says, and she looks tired, but mostly very pleased with herself. "-may I come in?"
What if this is a succubus pretending to be Venn. It would be probably obvious to a succubus to try such a thing even if nobody else has guessed.
He will Detect Fiendish on her and then she can come in.
