She doesn't manage to catch Lan Xichen's eye at breakfast, but she does find him in the library after the meal ends.

"Good morning."

"Good morning. I... am not sure how much you already know about how last night went?"

(Subtext: I am not trying to undercut whatever information you already have and I'm not assuming it's none.)

"I understand that there was a... Disney singing contest?... with New York?"

She has no idea what kind of tone people usually take when they're reporting things to Lan Xichen (and she hates not knowing that) but for now she'll just default to the tone she'd use with her own upperclassmen.

"That did happen, yes; Wen Ning's bedroom is right next to Annaka's sister's. Wei Wuxian did a surprisingly good job herding everyone else and everybody involved had a good time and there aren't going to be any problems from it, I think? But even so."

"Next year I'll scope out who the neighbors are before I sign off on the party."

She also hates not being able to tell what the person she's talking to is thinking (she was USING that communication layer, thinks some very childish part of her brain, you can't just TAKE it) but she will deal with it. And try not to worry too much that she's coming off as rude or embarrassing or similar. Lan Xichen usually deals with Shanghaiers. Probably she's doing fine.

"Right. And— as of last night nobody else knew this except Wei Wuxian but when Lan Wangji is drunk he thinks it's a good idea to keep Wei Wuxian in his room all night and fight off the mals with his sword? Apparently?"

"... ... ... he got drunk?"

Wait was that a surprise.

"...yes. Everyone did."

"Wangji. Got drunk?"

"..........yes. Yes, he did. And then he wouldn't let go of Wei Wuxian and tried to fight Masozi, and on the way back he decided he was going to try to raid the shop cabinets for red envelopes and keep Wei Wuxian in his room all night and we had to physically stop him because he wouldn't listen when told that would kill them."

"...it's against the rules of the Lan family to drink."

That is a sentence that has implications! Perhaps if Lan Wangji were not such a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma Ayako would even be able to tell what they were!

"I am informed that Wei Wuxian said 'you should get drunk with me' and then everyone agreed without further protest."

"I... am surprised."

Yes, she can tell, and she has no scripts for it.

"Yeah. I, uh, don't know much else, I can ask the people who were actually there but it seemed important that you know about the curfew thing."

"Yes. I'll-- speak to the freshmen and let them know Wangji shouldn't drink. Although I'm very confused about why he did in the first place so I'm not sure I fully understand the situation."

(Would it kill whatever part of her regulates anxiety to tone it down about thirty percent, please? That would be great. She's doing fine! There is no reason to be like this! In fact it is an unusually bad idea to be like this right now because Lan Xichen's affinity is emotions and he can almost certainly tell! Usually knowing that would be enough to make her stop!)

"Fair enough. I'd been... avoiding bringing it up in public, I don't think anyone else knows? I guess he might have interacted with New York."

"Fortunately, New York can't tell East Asians apart."
