It's the weekend and that means it's time for extracurriculars!
As a freshly inducted member of Suicide Club, Mei's first assignment is intended to be more about learning the ins and outs of the Scholomance and less about feats of daring just yet.
Her team is given a maintenance hatch and told that there is a small colony of parchment wasps setting up behind a wall panel in the sophomore bathrooms. Their assignment is to collect the wasp hive (and any dead wasps).
"Why are you here? No one asked you to be here. Isn't this against the rules of the Lan family?"
"It's a great extracurricular and extremely practical. You get hands-on experience with a variety of mals and more intimate familiarity with the school's inner workings. It's like maintenance but much cooler."
Why does this school even have extracurriculars. That seems like it would get in the way of studying, building mana, and most importantly Wei Wuxian not being dead.
"Also you get to tie rope to yourself and climb down the maintenance shafts!"
Literally how is this school not dangerous enough for you already.
"So we should probably talk strategy for how to get the wasp nest? One of us is going to have to set up and open the hatch. And there might be crawlspace on the other side of the wall panel that we'll need to go through to actually get the thing once we've taken care of the wasps. But we'll need to take care of the wasps first... how much do either of you know about parchment wasps?"
"Do you know any good ways to deal with them? I was thinking maybe some kind of smoke bomb?"
"We should do a smoke bomb! That sounds awesome! --Does anyone have a smoke bomb."
"Liquid soap and water doesn't sound like it would make a very good smoke bomb?"
"Ohhh. Cool! Does it fuck up their wings or something? I wonder how hard it would be to do a geyser spell but with soapy water..."
"Stop worrying so much, Lan Zhan! It'll be fine! I'm immortal!"
"Magic is expectations-controlled so if I believe hard enough that I won't die then I won't."
If soapy water clogs pores why is she supposed to use it to wash her face.
"I think probably a spray bottle is not going to be enough for a whole nest of wasps? At minimum we should all have spray bottles."
