Bella does not try to have a full-on conversation with Marcy et al while in the middle of maleficaria studies. Instead she nods politely, sits down without making a huge fuss about it because while New Orleans is small it's at least a real enclave and she doesn't look like a parasite waiting to happen so she needn't worry too much about friendly overtures seeming loaded, and takes notes on amphisbaena perfectly studiously for an hour and a half. (There isn't actually an hour and a half's worth of material on amphisbaena if you're a fast reader and notetaker and have an eidetic memory for the day, so she attempts to temporarily trade textbooks with the nearest Sino so she can do it over again in Chinese, but communicating this concept in gestures ultimately fails and she isn't willing to try suggesting it out loud while other people are still trying to concentrate. Maybe she will arrange a textbook swap plan with Wei Wuxian later, he seems quick.) She goes over her schedule for the rest of the period instead, and then when the bell rings she taps Marcy on the shoulder before the Bostonians can peel off. "I met an interesting alchemist at breakfast. Makes eidetic memory potions."
"That is interesting," says Marcy, packing up a page of notes on amphisbaena that she already knew and was mostly transcribing for mana. "Have you tried one; are they good?"
"Is he selling the recipe?" adds Abigail.
"I tried one and it seems good! I think he's planning to sell the potions themselves, not the recipe, but it's possible you could convince him otherwise. He wants backup lookouts for the brewing and will trade doses for it, though. He's going to try to organize card games for mana in the library tomorrow and you could perhaps join them?"
"Sounds like a useful in. What card games are good for mana?"
"I can sell lookouting," adds the blond boy with sticking-out ears.
"Oh, hey, intros, Bella, this is Kevin Franklin and Abigail; guys, this is Bella."
"Nice to meet you. He mentioned games called Mao and Codenames but I don't actually know either game yet."
Shrug. "Me neither; I guess we'll find out." Marcy's game education is limited to paintball, laser tag, baseball, table tennis, and multilingual word games.
"Sure. I'll find you at lunch and you can point him out to me--also, what's his name?"
"See you, enjoy what ever you have next, I'm off to see what the school thinks my next language is or if it just believes I need to work more on Mandarin."
"Korean history for me; I'll be getting in touch with my ancestry and their cool spells. Have fun!"
"Do my best!" And she waves goodbye and peels off to the crowd headed for lang lab, since that's big any time of day.
