History of Artificing is not her favorite of the classes on her schedule but at least Maleficaria Studies is over. And at least she recognizes a few of the people in this classroom.

"Hello, Ayako! Wen Ning! Wen Ning, I didn't know you were going for artificer track."

"I'm not, they just gave me the class."

"I'm not either, I'm creative writing track, but I matched my schedule to Wen Ning's because it was close enough to do that and seemed easier than trying to get it to rearrange us both to the same thing. You're Wei Wuxian, right?" 

"Yep! --Don't worry about a thing, Wen Ning, you'll do brilliantly. Just pretend no one else is here."

Wen Ning nods quickly.

"So is this another one where they just hand us a textbook and watch us go-- I wonder why they don't just give us textbooks and assignments and let us sort the timing out ourselves, for the history and writing and math classes, it's not like they need to coordinate with teachers." 

"Less likely to be attacked if we're all in a room together?"

"I just feel like study groups would have a similar effect! --I don't think I got your name yesterday or this morning, you're Yanli's brother?" 

The mention of Yanli softens him. "Jiang Cheng. --Or, Jiang Wanyin, but everyone calls me Jiang Cheng."

(...his birth name? Jiang Cheng sounds more like a birth name than Jiang Wanyin does, anyway. What does that mean.)

"Pretty name. Anyway, for mal studies Wen Ning and I made flash cards and are going to quiz each other later, do you want to do something like that for this class?" 

"I was sort of planning to make Wen Ning take all my notes for me anyway, so sure!"

...this is not something she wants to get in the middle of. It is day two and she has picked more than enough battles as it is. "Study group it is, then." 

"You'll do great in classes, Wen Ning, you don't have to talk to a person."

"Don't get his hopes up."

"Wen Ning is great as long as no one's watching him! This is kind of a problem for languages I'll admit."
