sacramento enclave has a bad morning

Larisa gets her scheduled finalized as soon as possible and then runs to the cafeteria, swinging her axe and carrying a laden backpack with all the gear she's sorted through to distribute to the rest of the enclave at breakfast. She always runs everywhere; it's good for mana, she's too fit to get anything much from walking nowadays.

She's one of the first seniors to arrive in the cafeteria, which means there's a lot of food to choose from, but she's also making herself first pick for any lurking mals. There aren't any really dangerous ones, though, and she's able to load up an extra tray. Vanya won't eat the eggs, but he likes the (fake transmuted) orange juice, and that looks as-of-yet uncontaminated. And if she's lucky he'll even eat the oatmeal today.

She's already staking out the enclave table by the time Landon appears. "Morning. ...Who's walking him over this morning?"

Vanya probably doesn't need a hallway bodyguard for safety, this week; the mal population is low after the Mortal Flame cleansing, and besides which there's a whole freshman year full of easier targets. He still needs to be walked over, though, because otherwise he just...won't eat breakfast.

"Justin's on it."

"Right. ...I checked with Cassie, we did some swaps to put them in all the same classes." Sigh. "Not great for her, honestly, she's going for artificing track and instead she's in creative writing courses with him. At least he can handle the math."

Shrug. "Yeah. ...Figure Tristan'd be up for running him to the bathroom today? He should bathe."

"First day of classes. I don't want to push anyone too hard."

Landon sits down. For a moment, he lets himself look very tired.

"...It'll be a good couple of weeks, though. More slack for everyone. Maybe even a chance to - catch our breath a little, plan for the longer term..."

As if.

(Larisa does not say this out loud.)

Justin arrives with the crowd of juniors after a few minutes, looking harried. "Sorry, Lan, my schedule's rotten this term. I'm in three advanced history courses, I'm going to have so much homework."

"I told you to switch out of anything too heavy," Landon says, without much heat.

"I did! This is after I swapped out of the absolutely brutal Prussian literature class and the advanced geometry I had for no fucking reason. The school's out to get me or something."

Tristan arrives a little while later, humming cheerfully and finger-combing his damp hair. It's been a bit since his last haircut, and his dark hair is long enough to stick out everywhere.

He swings by the cafeteria line, loads up, and heads over to join them. "Morning!"

"Someone's in a good mood." Larisa sounds kind of suspicious about this.

"I got a bunch of really great language classes! And three of them are with Rose."

(Rose is an indie girl who Tristan is, perhaps, somewhat sweet on.)

"Mmm." Larisa's voice contains a negative quantity of enthusiasm.

A few minutes later, Cassie makes her way into the cafeteria with Vanya, and directs him to the table where Larisa has food already gathered for him, before making her own run at the now well-picked-over cafeteria line. Her expression is that of someone who is trying very very hard not to be visibly grumpy or say anything snarky out loud, and is only mostly succeeding.

Vanya sits down and looks disconsolately at his food and doesn't say anything to anyone, not even to acknowledge Larisa's hug.

Raleigh isn't among the first freshmen to trickle in for breakfast, since he spent a while working on his schedule.

He looks around for any of his recent new acquaintances, especially Bella or Marcy - they were nice - but, after collecting food (and failing to get any extras for Shannon this time) he heads for the Sacramento table first.

"Good morning! How was your homeroom?"

"All right? I think I got a decent schedule - here, you can check it?" He hands over the copy he made in his notebook.

And then lowers his voice. "Larisa?"

"I really want an explanation of, um." Vague hand gesture in Vanya's direction.

Vanya is currently staring into the distance, as though he's forgotten that he's in a room with other people and also food he's supposed to eat.

After finalizing her schedule, Ribo goes to the cafeteria. She carefully checks the food with her trusty wire for Mals and then with a cheap spell Mother taught her for poison. She takes a small amount of a variety of things. Then she goes looking for a table. She notices a decent number of free seats at a table with a few Enclave kids and decides it doesn't hurt to ask: "Would it be alright if I join you?"

The Sacramento enclave doesn't usually fill an entire table, and meeting the new blood is always interesting.

Larisa glances at Landon for approval first, though, before answering the freshman girl. "Yeah, sure! Have a seat. I'm Larisa. Senior year, Sacramento enclave."

"Hi, I'm Ribo, I'm from Canada not associated with any Enclaves."

"Welcome!" Landon shakes his head. "...I'm sorry. This place isn't exactly welcoming, is it? Anyway, I'm Landon."
