He will eventually run out of ideas he's willing to share for wringing funding from the people they'll be marching past. Does the Knight-Commander need anything else from him?

Just help with the ghouls tomorrow, thanks.

Has the Knight-Commander considered allowing him to return to Kenabres in exchange for a donation no doubt his dear cousin would concoct an even worse assignment for him once she learned of it.

"Goodnight, then." He inclines his head slightly.

"Goodnight."

Any evening emergencies or should he go crash?

No emergencies, a few minor matters. (Does Lastwall's handbook have anything to say about people attempting to persuade others that their cause is hopeless if they aren't demon cultists? It's a crime in Mendev. Unrelatedly,  a few people were caught at various minor offenses that are definitely against both regulations and are being punished accordingly, but that doesn't require his personal attention unless he wants to give it.)

You could come down on demoralizing talk like that under this rule or that one but it's not very serious construed as either.

In their opinion this guy is a real piece of work, so they're going to construe it as whatever lets them punish him most severely! It's okay if that isn't huge as long as it's something.

That's all from them for tonight.

That's not especially principled but nor is it egregious and he has to put some battles back, so fine.

Sleep.

He is not interrupted during the night with any emergencies!

Great. Anybody have surprises to tell him about right before dawn or should he prep for Ghouls And General Oh Shit Situations?

Nothing urgent, sir!

(They caught a squirrel near his tent, and someone freaked out, thinking it was a familiar or a shapeshifter or something, but it turned out it was just a squirrel. But that's really embarrassing, so they're not reporting it.)

If he heard about that he would be pleased to know that his rest is so vigilantly protected but he will instead languish in ignorance. Breakfast, party assembly, and ghouls.

Would he like them to send along everyone who can remove diseases in case it's called for? There are a handful of people at third, and some Sarenrites at second with the right subdomain, and a couple paladins the Goddess felt were worth the extra investment who can do it with a Lay On Hands.

Yes please. He doesn't think Ember can do that infinity times (yet; has she thought about it? it might be a thing she can learn to do!)

That would be really good! But no, she can't do third-circle spells at all, let alone as cantrips.

Nenio regales them with facts about obscure varieties of ghoul while they walk. She has heard there is a variety found only in the desert, but it seems unlikely she will have the opportunity to verify this on today's excursion considering the local climate.

This is indeed not a desert. By the way, can Nenio tell if Ember is divine or arcane?

"Regrettably, I am unfamiliar with any variation on Detect Magic that permits this! However, it is possible to distinguish between them with the third-circle spell Arcane Sight; do you happen to have a spellbook I could copy it from?"

"No, I don't even have the spellbook page I once had to prepare Prestidigitation from whenever I dropped it these days and if I lose hold of it in the future I'm going to need to borrow off one of you. But perhaps we'll get lucky in the spoils of one of these diversions."

She nods. "In that case, I would be limited to making an educated guess based on common characteristics of arcane and divine casting; however, it is possible my deductions would be incorrect."

"The reason I'm wondering," he says to Ember, "is that it's possible that - in a few circles, when we have teleporters among us - if you're an arcane healer, you could go to Rahadoum and help them out there, as they're presumably chronically short on healing due to forbidding clerics. I'd want it to double as a recruitment and fundraising trip but you could have someone accompany you to handle that part and focus on healing."

He sighs wistfully. "Truly, how paradisical..."

"It is not." Flip flip flip. "Rahadoum suffers from a chronic shortage of clean water and healing, both of injuries and of diseases. These problems have significantly increased mortality rates from many causes, most notably childbirth—"

"Yes, yes, we get the idea."

"If there are people there who are suffering, of course I want to help them!"
