Hug.

"Welcome home."

Family hug!

"We'll keep you with your feet on the ground."

She laughs until there are small tears in her eyes, hugging her moms back. "Or the girls will keep me with my butt in the mud. One of those."

"They do like roughhousing. No idea where they got it from."

"The same place they acquired their feline form, if I had to guess."

"A mystery."

"Apparently so. I'll just drop it in the pile with the dead mice, shall I?"

She bursts into giggles.

"And if said pile gets much bigger, you will be sleeping in it. Not I, note."

"Well, fortunately the girls are moving up to providing the kitchens with game..."

"Fortunately for you."

"You're going to miss the mousy presents, then?"

"Not," she says firmly, "in the slightest."

"Aw. But they're very earnestly given."

"Be that as it may. I have no interest in collecting or consuming those rodents."

Giggle. "Fair."

Light kiss. "I can talk to the girls if they bring you any others."

"Thank you, dear."

"Anything for you."

Kiss!

Settling Micqui back into their lives is easy - made easier by having her there to help with the girls again. They've hired tutors, of course, and Gleam's been able to do a lot of the schooling herself, and Gleam believes very firmly in the school of life and so much of the girls' education has been just following assorted adults around, not anything structured.

(She hadn't really done that with Micqui. She hadn't known what to do, and Micqui was so bright academically, and already a Sidereal, and everyone was saying she'd need the things that simply helping her parents with their work can't teach... She regrets that, but it means Micqui makes an excellent recruit here.)

They don't have too much trouble moving the household to the southwest, though Gleam likes supplementing households with local staff, so while they have  settled buildings and locations and staff, and while they have done trips back and forth, there's a bit of an adjustment period, especially for the twins. (Would Gleam do anything other than take them to explore the rainforest? But that means they need local knowledge, friendly relationships - Gleam doubles this up with introducing her daughters around, making sure there's enough broad goodwill that if their very adventurous daughters go and get lost, the locals will look after them. And then she's managing goodwill in general, now made a bit more complicated by them and their staff being actually fully present...)

She's having fun, all in all, and she makes sure to keep up with pulling Elathea out of her workshop for breaks and meals and family trips when she's at a good pause point.

It helps that the initial setup involves a lot of trips to outlying region. Adjustments to ambient Essence flow and so forth. She's not shut up in her workshop while absorbed in business.

Sounds like family field trip time!

And Micqui is very glad she dropped out - she's having fun chatting with Elathea about Essence flows and what she's doing, and she finally has the broad background needed to really get the sorcery and geomancy talks. (She's also better than the preteens at not interrupting and more patient, so, better at hanging around to take advantage of shifts in Elathea's attention.)

Layla's also interested! And she and her twin are ten, now, which means they're very big girls, and they'll be adults really soon, and adults take their turns when talking, and are patient, and don't interrupt, and Layla's fairly sure that practicing being patient and not interrupting will make her grow up faster. (She definitely would like to get taller - she's currently somehow shorter than her identical twin. This is an outrage and means Layla needs to put extra effort into growing up.)

Geomancy, though, is cool, which means that patience is extra hard but also extra rewarding when she manages it.

Samira isn't so much interested in the sorcery. But she is getting very good at lurking. Both outside and in mom's new space. The other one had a bunch of warnings that would light up for mom when Samira tried to peek in, but this new one doesn't so much. Mom's putting them up slowly. It's a lot easier to learn how to get around just a couple at a time rather than everything at once. She doesn't touch, just looks. Brings back Micqui and Layla new things to ask questions about.
