Giggle. "Think you'll outlive me?"

"There's only one way to find out."

Giggle. "I guess."

She pokes Elathea's nose. "None of us are going to outlive each other, silly. We'll all be immortal."

Pout.

"Spoilsport."

"I'm just being realistic."

"Picking up my slack in that regard here?"

"Someone has to keep us grounded."

"Thank you for your sacrifice."

Kiss!!!

Kiss.

Small giggle.

She ruffles Micqui's hair. "C'mon, let's get ready for bed squirt."

"'Kay."

To bed, then.

It takes a little bit, but - they settle into a good rhythm, in time. Parenting a six year old, especially a traumatized one inclined to hiding her problems, inclined to subtle forms of acting out, stealing and lying and occasionally bullying other kids, is a new challenge, but - one Gleam feels decently equipped for. She's interacted with a lot more kids Micqui's age, including traumatized ones who've learned terrible life lessons, way more than she's interacted with babies over the centuries.

And Micqui continues being an excellent help, especially as Layla and Samira grow - especially once they're mobile. (To no one's surprise, Gleam's toddlers are very good at getting into trouble.)

She teaches them to hunt, of course, and keeps a very straight face the first time Samira triumphantly brings Elathea a mouse. Very serious. Not giggling at all. A kitten's first successful hunt is a very important milestone, after all. Wouldn't do to embarrass Samira.

"Thank you, my dear." She take the dead rodent by the tail and makes a show of inspecting it. Her eyes promise retribution for her wife. "A fine specimen."

Solemn cat-shaped nod.

Layla (who had flushed the mouse towards a very carefully hidden Samira) chirps smugly.

(She needs to work on her speed so she can get a mouse herself... Maybe she should go for rabbits or squirrels, they're easier to chase...)

"Our girls have very keen eyes."

"Perhaps they can catch another for you, dear."

"Hm... One mouse really isn't much of a meal..." She grins down at the kittens. "Do you girls feel up to scrounging up enough food for a soup?"

Outside hunting! Yes.

Her time has come!

Does Samira want to start with squirrels or rabbits?

Hmmm.

Squirrels are jumpy, but rabbits run quick...

Maybe they can put mom in that big lounging tree at the edge of the estate - the one they hung the birdfeeder near - and she can growl at any squirrels that try to run up it.

Though that might get frustrating - Layla's laughed at her share of dogs chasing a squirrel around a tree trunk...

And Layla is super quick, anyways.
