"Quite." Kiss.

Kiss!

And Gleam can demonstrate how alluring she finds being terrifying, once they're close enough to a bed for Elathea's comfort.

She enjoys that very much.

Perfect.

Gleam sadly doesn't get into other honor combats in the near future, instead settling into a small routine, the nervous energy she'd had on arriving bleeding off, her tense mind unwinding. She lazes around Elathea's estate a lot, reading through her library, playing around in the kitchen or art room, chatting with Elathea's retainers and harem girls... Often apparently not even doing anything productive, just finding a patch of sunshine in the garden to sprawl in as a tiger. (That takes nearly a year of being in the Blessed Isle for her to do even once.)

She grows more flighty, too. She's always been mercurial and whimsical, but she's been blowing off outings, here or there. Minor things at first, especially very business-oriented outings Elathea goes on a lot, especially if they've been around each other constantly or very busy - not entirely new behavior, really. She'd sometimes just vanish for over a month before they came to the Isle, usually bookended by being extremely interwoven in Elathea's business.

She's not having those long total absences now, but... Sometimes it feels like she might as well be.

Like right now, for instance, when Elathea's spent most of the last month immersed in projects Gleam couldn't really help with, Gleam presumably just as busy, and Gleam had said she could go with Elathea to this party, a more intimate get together with contacts Elathea needs for her projects -

Gleam's sprawled over the chaise, pouting, and definitely not getting ready.

"Are you planning to get up any time in the next half hour, dear?"

Stretch!

"Mmm... I'm cozy right here." Small smile. "But I'd be cozier if you joined me."

"We are working on a deadline, here."

Groan. "Can't we just stay in?"

"I need these boats. And the sailors. And I'm not going to get them without demonstrating goodwill by showing up to this party. So no, we can't stay in. This has been planned for weeks."

Negligent hand wave. "There's other boats and sailors, and you plan everything. Let's just - be us, just for once."

"No!" Her tone is sharp, almost a shout. "If you didn't want to go, you should have said something earlier. It is too late to cancel."

She glances away, curling in on herself. "Go without me, then."

"I would rather not. But I will, if you force my hand. Because I, unlike you, am responsible. I am reliable. I am capable of existing in a society that extends beyond myself because people can depend on me to honor the commitments that I've made."

She scrunches her face up (turns it farther away, hides her tears).

"Why does this even matter?" she snaps. "Who cares if you aren't at one measly party? There's always parties here!"

"I don't go to all the parties! I don't even go to most of the parties! This one is important, for reasons you well know. Reasons you agreed with when we talked about it the first time!"

Sulky huff.

"I thought you'd have spent any time with me first!"

"I was working. We can spend time together at the party."

"Business outings don't count!"

"Fine, then stay here and feel sorry for yourself. I'm not going to put my life on hold indefinitely for you."

She -

Starts crying.

"I'm your girlfriend!" she shouts, twisting up off the couch, posture guarded. "Not your arm candy, or your harem girl, or some pet you can put away when inconvenient and trot out to show off in front of your stupid friends!" Ragged, gasping breath - "I love you! I want to spend time with you! As you, not - as part of some business thing or trip or overblown restaurant - we barely talk anymore, not like we used to - we just hang out even less, why does everything have to be to some end - that's not dating, that's - business."

She swipes at her eyes, shaking. "If you don't want to be with me, then you can just say that, and you won't have to waste any more than a couple hours returning me to my realm, okay? I'll stop bothering you."

Elathea- breaks. Her posture collapses, shoulders hunch, breath huffs out.

"I didn't- That's not-"

"You would never be a bother to me."

"Then why do you act like I am?"

"I don't mean to," she says softly. "I love you. You're important to me. I thought I was including you in my life."

Soft, sad noise as she dries her tears.

"I like being involved in your life, but - I want your life to be involved in me, too," she says, almost uncertainly.
