"I can try, but most of my oeuvre isn't so much about the keeping things alive stripe of villainy."

"That's fair. If you've got anything spaghettiish that doesn't try to keep things alive, I could try it in the gym, see if anything survives anyway?"

"It's not spaghettish but I've got something that kind of sorts all the component parts of the thing, if you wanted to try reassembling them once they were - organized -"

"Oh, man, I was totally going to try to find a spell to sort things anyway. For, uh, other parts, of the process."

"I'll write it down for you and bring it around, shall I?"

"That would be wonderful."

"Cheers." She goes and eats. She comes back around, ducking behind where Kareen is sitting rather than stand in line again to hand her a tightly folded bit of paper, presumably written with her inside self.

Having an inside self is so convenient!!! Kareen reads it with her own inside self. 

At lunchtime Bella proves partial to watermelon.

Kareen hands her watermelon. "Something slightly delicate I'd like to talk about," she says, offering a hand in the specific way she does when she is offering to bring someone inside her pocket dimension. 

"...kay," Bella says, passing her tray to her inside self and taking Kareen's hand.

"So I spent some time working with Aadhya on finding stuff from my world that could be worked with, and long story short, I now have a mirror that can talk to people inside maw-mouths and get coherent responses instead of just screaming."

"And... what do they say??"

"I'm not going to say much about Subject Zero right now for reasons of privacy but I've got an open connection to Sir Alfred Cooper Browning downstairs, I've been putting on audiobooks when I'm not personally talking to him so he has some sensory input that isn't horribleness."

"- okay, what did he say before you started up with the audiobooks?"

"Mostly he was sarcastic and cynical about stuff, which I can't really blame him for. He...didn't have a lot of hope that I would succeed in even killing him, let alone getting him out."

"One person - well, a team, he had a circle backing him up outside while he went in - has killed a mawmouth. Shanghai's Dominus Li."

"Oh! I think someone mentioned that at some point. I should mention that to him. Do you want to meet him? It's less depressing than I expected!"

"Meet Sir Alfred? ........sure."

Sir Alfred's mirror is currently hung up in Kareen's bedroom. She leads Bella down and pauses the audiobook. 

"Hi! This is my friend, Bella Swan. She reminded me that a Dominus Li of Shanghai killed a maw-mouth."

"There are Dominuses in Shanghai, now..."

"Pleased to meet you. Yes, China's on the up and up. Half the Scholomance slots these days - there's twice as many, they cut the rooms in half - are China's to allocate."

"The things they've done to my school..."

"The library is still great!"
