"Thanks much." She leaves chewing on her kebab.

Alright. That puts her haul in perspective. One night is most of a silver, so she has maybe a week's runway from today. Assuming she doesn't buy anything, which: she needs to buy things. And she can't rely on broken things in the longer term. So - another income stream. Fighting, maybe. She has a stake now, enough to wager on herself - but she doesn't have any Skills on the fighting side just yet.

So... time to address the hole at her side. She needs a dagger. She'll get one of the better mundane ones for a whole silver. And then she'll go find some clear space, maybe just outside the city limits, and do her katas and see if anything crystallizes.

Something does crystallize!

Again not anything she can put in words, and she was already very used to fighting with a knife, but suddenly this knife's subtly different shape and balance doesn't feel quite so alien, and there's a subtle awareness about where the blade is and is going to be that feels a little more innate, a little more instinctual, than before.

She breaks out into a grin.

That is so cool.

She'll shadowbox next - she can't train her throws without a partner, but she can practice her strikes at least.

Shadowboxing clicks soon enough, too. She can hit faster and return to neutral pose faster, just a bit. It's easier to keep the punches in perfect form without focusing on it. She's more aware of her balance. It would seem that using existing skills turns them into Skills fairly easily.

So then she should definitely stop by the gunsmiths' later.

For now though she heads back to her rooms and flops into bed. It's been a pretty long day.

She absently plays with her memory crystal as she goes to sleep, rifling through her store of experiences.

Her store of experiences is intact. Recording normally, even.

Not that Thorn knows this, but it's metaphysically a part of her enough to have been brought along by the great summoning. It could have been taken from her, to push her to more distress and faster action. But that would have been extra effort for risky and nebulous gains. Besides, the effort to import it and ensure it works consistently had already been done by that point.

Her Chronobank feels about 1/2 full by the time she's done, between eating and the time spent waiting for people to ask for repairs in the town square. Kind of hard to tell how much acceleration she'll get out of it without trying it, though it feels like... A scale of minutes, not hours.

She'll try speeding her cognition and riffling through her memories faster. Anyone stand out? Anything she ought to have caught then she can catch now?

She doubles her perception speed, and the drain in her Chronobank starts immediately. She could push it up further or accelerate slightly less strongly - the consumption of stored time appears to be exponential to the amount of acceleration.

Moments that stand out upon a re-watch:

A huge, shadowy body below her in the ocean, passed in barely a second as she flies along and not seeming to react.
Some wary looks and hastily covered tattoos on Fischers as she walked past the street they seemed to be consolidated on.
One of the most bundled up people who walked past her seems... A bit more inhuman on a second review. Their hood and long robes were clearly hiding a tail bundled up under them, and maybe digitigrade legs and horns, and they carried themselves with a subtle aura of power. Nobody seemed concerned, though.
A few cutters in the Sharktooth tavern who were eyeing her as a potential mark and seemed undecided about it during her brief visit to check prices. One of which shadowed her in the town square for a while before going back.

Ah, lovely. Well, that's a problem for tomorrow.

She stops draining her chronobank and sleeps.

Nothing disturbs her sleep. The Chronobank is full when she wakes up.

She gets out of bed and goes down to have her hotel breakfast. After that, she'll head out to the square again and get back to doing repairs.

The stream of people wanting things fixed is steadily drying up. Most of the things people own are enchanted in some way or another, especially their more valuable things. And clothes can be mended ordinarily, and so on.

One of the cutters who was eyeing her as a mark offers two silver to fix his mom's stables - the roof is falling in. If she can do that, that is?

... She'll have to see the damage to know for sure.

Her place is over on the north side of town, near the gate.

He gestures and starts walking.

She follows, with a cautious eye for her surroundings. She's well aware this could be a trap, but - two silver.

This isn't really a big enough town to have alleys, but here is a smaller, less crowded street. He points around the side of one of the houses.

Yep. That's a stable, with a sagging roof and a horse inside it.

"What do you think? Need to see it from inside?"

"I'll need to see the support beam but it should work."

He'll let her inside to see the support beam. Then- Shut the door behind him, and draw the blade at his side while she looks at the support beam, deliberately allowing it to make the noise of steel on leather.

She turns and looks at him at the sound.

"Really?"

She is neither intimidated nor impressed.

A moment of hesitation, consideration, judgement. Blink and you'll miss it.

Then the man blinks in confusion. "...What? I'm feeding Lottie." He points at a hay bale on the floor. Then hefts it towards the horse's stall, and cuts open the thin mesh binding it into a roll once it's there. "So, does the support beam look fixable? Two silver, like I said."

She has Chronobank and you'd best believe she was speeding her mind there. The expressions play out across his face in slow motion.

So this was a setup. But a clever one.

She nods amiably to him and fixes the support beam without looking back at it. (She still has a hand on it, it's not that hard.)

"Clever how they roll those. Haven't seen that before. Thanks for the chance at honest work. My payment?"

"It's tricky, but makes 'em conveniently dense. Fixed, just like that. High level Skills are terrifying, huh? Here you are."

He tosses the two coins through the air to her with a small sigh, gives her a grimace and a little nod.

She snatches the coins out of the air with her left hand, smiles and nods back. "Be nice of you to recommend me to your friends, but that's a bonus. Mind getting the door?"

He opens the door and backs away and gives a sardonic bow.

"Sure, as long as you don't embarrass me with tales. Best keep this to the right circles anyway."

She laughs and nods. "No hard feelings." And then she's out the door.
