They wake up lying on the ground.
Outdoors.
It's a bright, clear day.
Their body feels different.
Who's in front?
Warm, eager curiosity, with a side of playful smirk? Okay feels like it's Sable.
Ruby blushes a bit and leans in conspiratorially, whispering, "D'you have a crush on her?"
And then talk of crushes reminds her of Yang. She sighs softly and nuzzles in closer. "We miss some people too. From our memories."
"It's not you who should be apologizing. Not for grieving those you miss. The Company did this to me. Tore us both from our homes without a say in the matter." She reciprocates the hug, firmly.
"The people I miss, though... they're not from the world we just came from. Same with the other Pirates. We'll probably miss Sable's dad and step-mom and sisters at some point, once it sets in that rarely became never, but most of the people we miss were like... my sister. Yang."
She's not sure if she should say anything about just how deeply she misses Yang. That's... Not everyone responds well to that. And they're actually making things work with Momo.
She nods, wordlessly.
"...Tell me about her? The saying goes, that someone is never dead while their name is still spoken, and while that's not quite right... I think the principle holds."
She smiles softly up at Momo. "Yeah, it does.
"Yang's... a protector. She got in trouble for punching kids who bullied me at our combat school, Signal. She practically raised me after Mom died, 'cause Uncle Qrow and Dad were both falling apart. She baked me cookies, she helped when I couldn't focus on my schoolwork, she could tell when I was sad and sit me down with cookies and ice cream. She made Dad sober up after Mom died so he could help raise us. She made Uncle Qrow ease off on the drink enough to train me to use a scythe. She was always cracking jokes, always cheering me up, and they were always so corny."
"And every time she made me laugh with one," she continues, blushing a bit, "she'd always get this big happy grin on her stupid pretty face."
...It's interesting, that she just blushed while calling her sister pretty. It could just be embarrassment, though. She's not going to ask, either way.
"...I was an only child, but... After all we've been through together, I think I consider all of class A as close as family ever could be."
Ruby smiles at that. "Yeah, I really get that. It was the same way with teams RWBY, JSMN, and JNPR. Most everyone on the teams was all part of a big messy polycule, even."
"JSMN, assuming that those are initials, being... Sable, Maya, Neo, and - Hailey under another name? And if the team that literally spells Ruby with its name wasn't yours I'll make a hat and eat it."
"...I don't know if I've ever heard of a polycule before... But from context it sounds like a type of relationship?"
"Yeah. She picked the name Jade on Remnant, 'cause Hailey isn't a color. And a polycule is a polyamorous relationship. Portmonteau of polyamory and molecule."
Polyamory?
She deconstructs the Latin.
"Oh. Oh, I see. I... Did not know that that was a thing that people did."
She giggles nervously and blushes. "Technically it's a thing you're thinking about doing! Plurality's a trip!"
