She is not really going to be done with it by Chelish standards until well after the Owls wears off but she does remember to put an effort into toning it down.  "I hadn't thought to ask- well, mainly as there's little to buy out here-" -oh huh, is she better at being aware of the reasons behind her thoughts-or-lack-thereof too, that's neat-  "-but partly I... hadn't wished to bargain as an Abadaran and didn't know how to as an Iomedaean."

"So, there is no standard process for paying independent adventurers, beyond providing food and shelter and making whatever other transactions suit. People are generally either soldiers, who get paid and have a lot more demands on their time and conduct, or adventurers, who are presumed to have adventurer wealth and are entitled to applicable shares of demon loot but can leave at will and make their own arrangements about the details. The assumption is that you are motivated by some combination of anti-demon or directly alignment-adjusting motives, and circles.

"Your case is unusual because you can channel and that is scarce up here, but, relatedly, we are having supply issues and also seeing the edges of a currency problem with the paper money, since it's Evil."

Owls or no, she is still distractible.  "The money truly is Evil?  I'd thought that the wildest of tavern rumors."

"It is backed by damned souls, and trade therein is Evil. I am planning to exchange what the fort has on hand for metal coinage when the insurance adjuster comes through because I think it likely he can navigate this problem but I don't know if he'll be able to get me a very good rate."

"Huuuuuuuh."  A well-bred Osirian girl doesn't need the concept of currency backing explained any further than that, and relatedly is finding it fascinatingly horrible and making A Face about it.

"I definitely oughtn't accept any, then, at least for a time, I don't know how far from the edge I was...  wait, will you be all right?"

"I'm probably Lawful Neutral and evidently just having the money around waiting to be disposed of is not sinking me farther than that."

"I suppose possessing it oughtn't be much less worse than trading it, especially in the name of the Queen-"  oh shit is the Queen all right- well, presumably the Queen can manage her own alignment and it's all part of liberating Cheliax from Hell anyway.  And focusing back on the topic at hand is suddenly as easy as breathing-

"So- I don't especially want to sign on as a soldier, no.  Even if I could, not being myself Chelish.  And- I'm not going to leave, paid or not.  I as well don't want-"  nope shit she needs to cut that train of thought off right now if she continues down it she is going to cry and that's neither helpful to her nor fair to the commander of Best Fort- "which would leave me ordinarily in a much worse position to bargain."

"I would recommend that you try another fort and spread the healing around but I don't know that any of them are likely to be able to get you a better deal right now."

"No, I expect not, and- of the ones I've been so far at, this is the pleasantest.  Although I do wish to share the healing around, as far as I may.  It's- when I was as yet only a wizard, and decided to stay, I thought the neighboring forts to be more or less as this?  I traded more spells in a day here than months at home."

"I think this fort has fewer wizard circles than most because that is not what I have prioritized when trading people, if that matters."

Shrug.  "Not as such- I'm yet only second, I've no thirds to trade."

"Yes, though my understanding is that many wizards like to get out ahead of that."

"Well, yes, I'd like to, but- we needn't spend the Owls on this.  I do prefer to be here; do I guess right that you would prefer me here and suggest other forts from- honor?"  The word in Taldane doesn't have quite the same connotations as the one she meant but she doesn't get stuck on it, Owls is incredible.

"You are very welcome here. It would probably be slightly more efficient for holding the line overall if you were posted a few east of here, but my understanding is that everyone is trying hard to retain cleric adventurers and most of them are failing, probably for reasons that would also affect your comfort there, and having you here long-term is better than having you at #40 for a month and then having you march to Kenabres."

Of course that's how to bargain like an Iomedaean, they remind you how much worse off everyone else is until you feel guilty asking for anything more than you already have  that's rude and there's no reason to think the barracks stories about Mendev have anything more to do with actual Iomedaeans than all Osirians being whores has to do with actual Abadarans.

"Well, the Abadarans say if one can't keep free servants, one ought pay them more," she quips, "and I don't deny Eighteen should needs pay me- quite a bit more, if they wished to keep me.  So being here is worth at least as much."

"I can write about a budget adjustment for you, I just expect it to take months if the answer is a clear yes and longer to discover for sure that it's a no, so I shouldn't promise anything."

"Oh, I shouldn't mind at all that it took months, as I said there's little to spend it on.  And I understand you can't promise, especially as there might be politics."  She scrubs a hand across her eyes and stifles a yawn.  "And if it's a no and I'm worse off a year from now, I suppose I merely head towards Elysium faster."  (She doesn't sound like Elysium is especially appealing.)

"...Elysium's not in range of Nethys..."

Blink.  "...but He's... the All-Seeing-"  (obviously he didn't mean 'Nethys can't see Elysium')  "...I know I won't keep mortal magic after I die, but Elysium shouldn't be so bad, even as I'd rather Nethys's realm."

"No, I mean, to be His cleric you cannot in life be Chaotic Good and should you manage it you will lose your cleric powers. You might want this but would not be advised to do it accidentally."

"...what?"

"Because He's True Neutral. You have to be neutral-something or something-neutral or match him entirely, to be His. Since you channel positive that leaves four possibilities."

"Why?  That's-  it-  I, I know Lawful gods haven't Chaotic clerics and such but he's Nethys-"  She catches herself, puts both hands over her face and breathes slowly and carefully.

"I must apologize, I oughtn't shout at you, you're not Pharasma."

"He can have Chaotic Neutral clerics..."

"I really must worry about being too Good...?" She mumbles, still through her hands, almost plaintively, and then mutters something bitterly in Osiriani.  Another deep breath.  "It's ever so?  Abadarans should Fall if they became Neutral Good, Sarenrites Lawful Neutral?"
