"Yeah, I think I got everyone and I'm guessing you got everyone too."

"Everyone I haven't run into before, yeah."

Back in the truck.

Back to the truck.

"Thanks again for the ride."

"No problem. I know it's a dying art but I kinda like driving."

"Oh? I've never tried it. I guess I'd be safer on the road than most people now, considering but I don't really see a need."

"You don't need it, at all," he shrugs. "Sometimes a dungeon is in a weird place but then I have to hoof it a bit anyway, they're basically always going to be somewhere with an address you can program in."

"Yeah. My grandparents in Alberta used to live far enough off the beaten track that they never had a dungeon pop up very close to them. They eventually had to move into town but the town isn't even that big so it's still pretty safe in that regard."

"I'm surprised cities are still as much of a thing as they were in the sixties, I'd have expected more flight - I guess not everyone had the opportunity to leave."

"I think a lot of bad neighborhoods got worse in the 70s because anyone who could get out did and the authority figures didn't care much about the remainder. They probably figured the dungeons were doing them a favour."

"That sounds like a more cynical explanation than I'd tend toward? The richest people live in cities, too, and they might have taken vacations but when it was clearly a long term phenomenon they didn't all just abandon their livelihoods. The dungeons are too random for anyone to hold very long to a belief that they were doing some kind of motivated, uh, what would one call it, cleansing."

"Well I'm not saying anyone thought the dungeons were doing it on purpose, just that until they figured out that dungeons allowed to kidnap people and escape come back worse and in different places the people making the decisions probably didn't feel very motivated to deal with the ones that were kidnapping people in poor neigbourhoods. To be fair they were also much more resource stretched but... They can't get away with that viewpoint now of course. Also having centralized infrastructure is useful which is why cities are still popular probably.

Also I think if they hadn't met in the 70s my grandparents might have stayed in Edmonton rather than move back in with his parents."

"I can't credit my existence to dungeons at all, my parents' families were both from the same town which is too small to ever get them."

"Well they would have married either way probably, and my parents met on vacation so who knows. I don't know if my dad's parents ever considered moving out of the city."

"Ren's never been kidnapped by a dungeon, probably because she's the kind of person who says things like 'I've never been kidnapped by a dungeon'," he imitates a slightly disappointed tone of voice.

Giggle

"My parents both have once. My dad was before I was born but after my brothers were born. I was in elementary school when my mom was kidnapped but I was actually at school at the time and it was apparently a pretty tame one so I didn't find out until after the situation was already resolved. We had pizza for dinner that night because neither of my parents were feeling up to cooking. We also got fancy ice cream which was a semi-rare treat."

"I don't see much of the gentle ones, because the really gentle ones, mostly SWAT guys can handle it and they don't call in espers. But that's most of it and it makes the numbers of how many dungeons there are every day less overwhelming."

"Yeah, my mom was pulled out by some SWAT guys. She was fine physically just too stressed out to want to do much that night and my dad wanted to keep he company while she rested. I think my dad had it a bit worse but again this was before I was born so I don't know the details."

"Valid to not want to make dinner after spending a while even in, like, the hamburger dungeon."

"Fortunately pizza delivery exists!"

"Hear hear."

'And then they bribed the three of us kids shamelessly with ice cream and Netflix movies to leave them alone for the evening."

"Was it hard to get you to do that without bribery? My mom used to have to coax me away from my books if she wanted my attention."

"Well, they could have let us come up with our own entertainment for the evening but then they might have been required to break up a fight about it. Fortunately we all agreed that Indiana Jones was acceptable."

"Cricket says those didn't age well."

"Well I haven't seen them since I was a kid. Though I believe it."
