Romy would not trust this man, or this situation, as far as she could throw either of them, but cut off from Lawson and Kaidan, and with no clue as to the layout of this place, she might as well start jazzing with it. Jazz. Improv. Shut up, Romy.

She lowered her weapon, and tried to look puzzled, but not trusting of Wilson. "But she was helping me escape. Why would she do this?"

"She's working for the Shadow Broker, she has to be. They've been trying to infiltrate this place for two years - ever since we got you."

Right. Well. There goes her theories on this being the Shadow Broker's place. Well, since Wilson seems to want to talk.

"I don't know why anyone would want me, I mean, I'm grateful, but I was...dead. I was dead, right?"

"It wasn't pretty. But we brought you back - better than new. We used the most cutting edge technology. You even have a few upgrades. You're welcome for that."

"Flamethrower hands? Built-in jetpacks, that sort of thing?"

Wasn't pretty. Bet that's an understatement. Closed casket are the norm for people who are spaced.

"An advanced skin weave, you heal at an accelerated rate and you're harder to damage. Omni tool integration. Top of the line biotic power implant and amp. Congratulations. You're a biotic now. "

What?

"Well, I've heard of weird science, but that's taking a bit far, don't you think? Why the hell would I need to be a biotic?"

"You tell me. You're the one we're counting on to save the universe."

"What, again? Who left the proverbial oven on this time?"

"The Council? They covered everything up. Said that Sovereign was the only one. Damn aliens. Going to get us all killed."

Romy has to physically stop herself from punching this man. He's just the messenger, Romy, he wasn't the one who decided to spend all that money bringing you back instead of, oh, I don't know, building a fleet of ships!?

"Stunning choice of priorities there, by the Alliance. Reapers are back but oh no, we don't have someone to call crazy!"

"The Alliance isn't any better. You think they would actually spend two years and four billion credits bringing back one soldier? They don't have the resources. Or the intelligence."

"So it's not the Alliance. Or the Council. Or the Shadow Broker. So tell me, Chief Medical Officer Wilson, who did want me back?"

"Who else would have the money and the power to do it? Cerberus."

Romy's gun seems to raise of its own accord. "The fuck."

Wilson back off, raising his hands again. "Woah! We saved you. You should be thanking us! And I'm trying to save you again. We need to get out of here."

Well, he has a point there. And she's still out in space with one exit, the shuttles. Even if- fucking Christ.

"Well, I guess if a girl turns down your offer, you find her corpse and force her into your shadowy little terrorist group. Fine, Wilson. Get me out of here."

At least he doesn't trust Lawson. Points to her. Hopefully she's undercover.

"There's another way - it takes us through the worst of it, but - you're Commander Shepard, you can get us past."

"You do realise the mission I'm most famous for is the one where everyone else died? Except me?"

She shakes her head, raises her gun. "Just stick close. You're my map."

"You saved the Citadel," he says in reply. And starts leading her deeper into the complex.

Yeah, what a save. Sacrificed most of Hackett's fleet saving one asari ship with three assholes on it.

Romy doesn't say anything else, and just does her job, shooting things.

There are many things to shoot. Wilson stays pretty hopeless, though he doesn't get in the way of her bullets. Eventually...

They come upon a man crouched behind some crates, standing off against a small army of mechs.

"...Romy?"

She drops Wilson like a sack of husks and runs to Kaidan, flinging her arms around him.

"I have no fucking clue, but I'm still glad as shit to see you."

Manages to still fire off a shot at mech, because hey, she's Commander Shepard. Or something.

He holds her tight. Clinging, even. "You're alive. I mean, they said they could do it but -"
