"They're all so cool! The professor gave me a Growlithe. He's so smart and nice." She does not mention the fact that she annoyed him until he gave it up. Nope.

"...I would like to see one more before I make my final decision."

Sure. Fine.

One more.

"I've decided to take the Arctovish. Thank you for indulging me."

He holds out his hand for the Pokéball.

She returns the other Pokémon to their balls.

She hands him the Arctovish's ball.

"Would you like to give him a nickname?"

"It's much too early for that, don't be daft. C'mon Juliet, let's be off."

He turns around and glances around the lab with curiosity; it's not often he'll have a chance to see what a genius' workspace looks like.

Juliet ignores him, she still has to get her pokédex. "What would you nickname them, Ms. Martin? Do you have a Pokémon too; what's their name?

"I don't know what I'd name an Arctovish. I have a Solrock named Curie, and a Misdreavus named Sophie. It's a good idea to choose some kind of theme."

"Cool! I've never seen those Pokémon before. Curie and Sophie... they're pretty names."

She pauses and tries to think about how they relate to each other, what the theme is, but doesn't come up with anything.

"Thank you. Now, I hear most of the trainers coming up now have heard of the Pokédex. Are you willing to take one with you and help us improve the state of scientific understanding?"

She holds out two Pokédexes, one white and one red.

Hartley, busy with trying to determine the exact function of every gizmo and gadget he can see, doesn't notice.

"Yeah! Hartley will want one too, can I take both?"

Whether she'll actually give it to him right away is up for debate.

"Sure! I hope you two have a wonderful adventure!"

"We'll send you so much stuff and Pokémon and Hartley probably will want to find fossils too."

"Let us know what you find."

She ushers them out, peering both ways to see if there are any other kids heading labwards, before ducking back inside.

Hartley didn't even get to touch anything. He bristles at the injustice of it all. For a moment.

"I have an Arctovish, Juliet. Do you know what a unique Pokémon that is? What a wonderful day."

"I've never heard of it, so it must be rare."

"They're made up of two different fossils, synthesized to revive a Pokémon that might never have existed. It's a revolutionary development in science. Professor Wattieza developed the process himself! I wonder if it's possible to determine what the original components looked like..."

"I don't think he'll talk to us now. You actually have to be impressive and not just some fanboy that took one of his Pokémon."

"Let's get going, then."

He places his Pokéball in his bag.

"Where was it you wanted to go first? One of the gyms, I assume?"

"We have to train our Pokémon first. Otherwise, when we get the gym they'll laugh at us and kick our butts. We should go to the wild area outside of town and camp there for a while."

"I'm not sleeping outside, Juliet. We can walk to the next town."
