Juliet and Hartley become Pokémon Masters. Probably.

She literally can't wait to start her journey today. She's been bouncing around in her room all night, though she has had to keep it quiet. If her dad knew that she was going to go get her very own pokémon and start her journey, he'd probably have a heart attack and lock them both up in the basement. He really doesn't want her to go.

But Juliet knows that this is important. She's been waiting for this moment her whole life! Ever since she saw her uncles battle each other when she was really little, she has known that that is what she wants to do. She literally can't wait for it. So... she sneaks out of her house - it's super easy, even with her dad's Braviary, Palamon, keeping watch, and super-spies all the way to town and the professor's lab. The fact that it's nearly one o'clock in the morning doesn't matter.

Juliet thinks for a moment about waking Hartley up and bringing him with her but dismisses it because she knows he'll be grumpy about it. Plus he doesn't even care about pokémon anyway and this way she'll get ahead in their game.

She knocks of the Professor's door and then keeps on knocking when no one answers. She can do this all night.

Eventually, the door swings open. "What in the world are you doing? I am busy, I need no interruptions."

"Hi!! I'm here to get my first pokémon! I've been waiting so long and I can't wait any longer!"

"Do you know what time it is, young lady? Now is not the time for such nonsense."

"I'm really excited and I can't wait anymore. Can I please get my pokémon now? I promise I'll leave straight away."

"No. Come back in the morning, my assistant will sort things out then." And he shuts the door in her face.

... Juliet starts knocking again. She knows it's rude but this is important. The most important thing that will ever happen to her.

After about ten minutes of this, the Professor opens the door again.

"Fine. If you won't leave, here." He gives her a pokémon ball. "Now be off with you. Come back at a more decent time and collect your pokédex. I will have no more of this disruption."

!!!!!! "Thank you so much! You're the best."

"Off with you now before I change my mind and you'll have no pokémon at all."

Juliet waves at him and bounces off with her brand new pokémon! She holds the pokéball close to her chest and runs off home. She even manages to sneak back into her room with her dad or Palamon catching her.

And then when she's all holed up in her room and the door is locked... she releases her pokémon.

A wild Growlithe appears!

It lands on the edge of her bed and immediately shifts down and growls.

Juliet sits still, carefully not to make any sudden movements.

"Hi. I'm Juliet and I'm your new trainer. Do you want some berries? I've got a bunch and they're all for you."

The growlithe stares at her warily but does eventually sniff at the berries she offers. They're suspicious but... they are very hungry. They eat the berries and then jump off the bed to hide under a desk. Much safer.

Juliet spends the rest of the night slowly gaining her growlithe's trust and not getting any sleep at all. She's way too excited for that. She's not sure what their name will be, but they have the rest of their lives to figure that out. They're gonna be the best of partners and friends.

Finally, it's morning and Juliet coaxes the growlithe back into their ball, has breakfast with her dad and Palamon and tells her dad that she's going to go play with Hartley. Nothing suspicious about that at all!

She doesn't even bother knocking and walks straight into his house.

Mrs. Rathaway rushes to the door, her face a mask of fear. She’s wearing a pantsuit and pearls, and her eyes are wild as she clutches a fork tightly. She straightens up upon seeing Juliet, and peers down over her glasses judgmentally.

”Miss Selwyn, I’m sorry to say Hartley is quite busy at the moment!”

She can hear the sound of amateurish music playing elsewhere in the house.

Juliet ignores the judgement and smiles up at her.

"He won't mind! I told him I'd be over today, he's expecting me," she lies easily.

She sighs, checking herself in the hallway mirror.

”Very well. One moment while I let him now. Don’t touch anything.”

She stalks off, heels clicking against the wooden floor.

Juliet goes around and pokes some things just 'coz. Hartley's mum is real weird.

There are the various awards she and Mr. Rathaway have won in their field...framed newspaper clippings covering their business success...as well as similar clippings of Hartley’s early successes, such as in the spelling bee, the talent show...and of course, there’s the cabinet of fine china.

She switches around a few of the framed things and puts Hartley's stuff near the front. She is very tempted to mess with the fine china, but probably she doesn't have that much time.

She doesn’t. She hears the sound of little feet running through the halls and Mrs. Rathaway’s shouted “Be careful, Hartley!”, and-

“You didn’t actually do it. Let me- let’s go outside. I’ll- Mother! We’re going on a quick walk around town!”

“Don’t be gone too long!”

He rushes out the door, barely remembering to grab a coat and a scarf.
