It is about halfway through the third hour of the fifteenth day of Lucette's attempt to reorganize her grandfather's library. The project is moving at an acceptable pace overall, though she's starting to question the wisdom of having scheduled the whole thing down to the hour during day three (hour four).
Lucette never was quite able to imagine herself actually being a wife and now here she is having a wife of her own.
They will have to run away in the morning but for now they can wear each other out and chase away the demon memories and fall asleep curled up together.
The suicide note is not easy enough to write, but she does in fact manage it. Lucette's parents spend some time hugging her goodbye, and then she's off towards Iceland with Annie, checking in with her several times during the flight to see if there's anything that would make her more comfortable, and whether she's sea sick, and whether she's cold or wet or anything at all that Lucette can help with.
It is almost completely impossible for Annie to feel too cold! She can get wet but it doesn't bother her much.
"Probably, yeah, as long as it's not going to freeze your ears or anything? - though also I think I need to breathe and there's less air higher."
"So far, changes in temperature haven't particularly bothered me - we could drift up higher till you either get cold enough or breathing feels difficult?"
Then that's where they'll stay till they land at a remote town almost as cold in Iceland.
Where, fortunately, Annie can speak fluent Icelandic to anyone they need to talk to about finding a place to stay the night.
Annie is really good like that.
"Does your power let you see in enough detail for you to cut my hair."
"Maybe you could try doing it here, if the inn keeper will let us borrow a pair of scissors, and then in Greenland I can start pretending to be a man and see if someone can do a better job?"
Lucette turns out to really like having short hair! She keeps running her hands through it and it's great and her Annie is great.
And when they get to Greenland, Annie will start calling her spouse "Oliver" in public and referring to "him". Modulo Greenlandic.
And Lucette/Oliver will wear pants. She has always wanted to wear pants! She figures out after a brief and ridiculous attempt to high step across the room that you aren't actually supposed to do anything different for walking in pants than in skirts, but it's still a novelty to be wearing them.
"I wore pants all the time at home but it's cute how excited you are about them." She can grab her spouse's butt like this.
"I like them!"
So long as she's okay with her spouse jumping half a foot in the air and bursting out in giggles a moment later.
Annie can now identify the senseable correlates of laughter almost all of the time! She giggles back.
