[Traceless and Lifeline are on the way.]

One of the dunes on the way to the injured man is steeper than he expected, sending him tumbling down its side.

A pit opens up in the sand - an antlion-like ambush that seizes him and holds him in place for a slowly advancing cactus monster.

He would really desperately like to get away now and is willing to struggle quite a lot about it!

[Isabella I'm caught and there's a cactus thing coming.]

[I'll tell them. Dungeons usually don't kill people outright, you'll probably be fine by tomorrow.]

Okay but what if his hands found some purchase on the side of this pit and he managed to pull himself out in like the next second or two.

The antlion pincers tighten when he struggles. The cactus gets closer.

There is no way this works but what if he bites the pincers, please let this work.

That doesn't help but it at least doesn't hurt any more than it did already.

"Please..."

Yeah that doesn't work. The cactus reaches for him.

It's a pretty slow-moving cactus. But it does, eventually, drag its spines down his back.

The sound that he makes tries to be a scream but he's too out of breath and terrified to do it properly and instead it comes out as a high-pitched keening.

Whether the cactus finds this satisfying and wants to repeat it, or unsatisfying and wants a reroll, or has no opinion on the matter, it does it again.

Can he bend out of the way literally at all please!!

He can twitch and flail but not effectively at all.

Well, then this time he'll scream. And, due to some stupid pointless reflex, attempt to kick the source of the pain away.

He can't even touch the cactus with his foot. It reaches down with another arm.

[Isabella please get me out of here really fast I-]

- it's difficult to telepathy when he's screaming.

[They're coming, they're coming as fast as they can. Haru says it's a big dungeon and people in it are spread out but he's found records of it and he's in there looking.]

He is crying too hard to respond immediately.

[Should I try to distract you or something -]

In between strokes, Lucien manages to reply: [don't know.] and then he's crying too hard to think of anything more to say because a different arm is descending towards him already.

[They're coming. They'll get you out of there any minute.]
