"It's more a proper keyboard and mouse in good posture-supported positions than the computer's might. But also it would be a very mighty computer because I am that flavor of nerd."

"I remember hearing about a two thousand dollar graphics card."

"A moderate exaggeration."

"Aha, I was thinking, like, do they even bother programming in graphics that you can only appreciate if you have a two thousand dollar graphics card, are the game companies in cahoots with the graphics card companies."

"Well, there's really no upper limit- It's just probably not discernable at all for the kinds of games I play to go past a thousand dollar one. All the other computer components would be high-end ones too, and we'd have two liquid cooling loops one for the CPU and one for the graphics card... I could probably spend around four thousand dollars on a computer before no longer getting marginal anything out of another dollar? And that's not counting aesthetics."

"In principle there's no upper limit but in practice the computer can only display the pixels that somebody programmed it to, right? That they rendered or that they drew or whatever. So there must be a resolution past which it doesn't help, because there's no further art assets to be seen beyond that depth."

"No, you're right. Also tons of modern PC games are really incredibly shittily optimized, like, it pains my soul as someone who has ever done any programming, you can't really get away with that for mobile or console games as much- And ah, but then you get into the dubious realm of 120 frames per second and so on."

"Is that a lot, I don't have FPS benchmarks memorized."

"It's arguable if it's really perceptible at all. The current gold standard is 60, older TV shows and some youtube videos will have 24 or 30."

"Do some people claim to be able to tell the difference?"

"Yep. Actually I think I do notice when it drops below 60 for a moment in faster games, like shooters- Especially since it does weird graphical stuff sometimes, visible lines for a fraction of a second because they sort of draw half the screen at a time, but going from 60 to 120? I sincerely doubt you can really tell."

"They haven't done a study?"

"If someone has I haven't heard of it? It's- You get a 120 frames per second monitor for the same reason you get a Gucci bag. Because you think it's cool, or high status, or something like that. That's the impression I have of the community. And like, it's your money... Of course, I could always be confidently wrong."

"This is a monitor thing and not a programs-and-videos-themselves thing? I guess that makes sense but - no, it'd have to be both, right?"

"It'd have to be both, and if you use V-sync- The half frame preventing thing- Actually I might try 120 frames per second just because I can, it would be embarrassing to just be wrong. It'd still mostly matter for shooters and stuff though, Civ or Factorio less so."

"I haven't actually tried shooters, they've always sounded really unappealing but now I literally shoot things a lot as my day job, maybe I'd develop a taste."

"Hmm... Doubt. But don't let me stop you."

"Hm, why doubt?"

"Games are - there's no physicality to it, I did try shooting a real gun once because my big brother semi-insisted and - I dunno, this is just a gutfeel."

"Hmm, I wouldn't say that particularly appeals to me about real guns either, I wasn't interested in them before. In part because I used to have dyspraxia and it would have been mightily stupid to try to pick one up."

"I don't know then, only thing is to try it. Oh, incidentally, I've discovered a new psychological flavor to accompany 'people want something from me' and 'all the anxiety'- 'Perfectionistic'. In a code-reviewing, protocol-following, report-writing kind of way. Probably only accessible at mild levels."

"Sounds like a good flavor if you can get it."

"Better than the others- And 'I did something incredibly terrible' which I got during awakening, too-"

"Sounds unpleasant but if you don't act on it maybe it's manageable."

"...Hmm. I'm going to need written dungeon protocols to follow. The checklist is God in aviation, I think it'd help if I had to do multiple dungeons."
