The past five years have been the best in Fernando's life (aside from nearly dying three or four times). He made second circle in under a year of adventuring, and as of six months ago he hit third. Wizard culture has shifted in the past decade and a half (he would like to credit Cheliax's spell lord, but maybe it's just that Cheliax used to be terrible?) and it is much easier to purchase useful, unique, and/or exotic spells. He has found a group he likes adventuring with, he would even almost call them friends. He's even gotten used to being a halfling.
His current job is a fun one, he purchased and learned Arcane Sight just for it. His team is cataloging the magical traps in the ruins of some old wizard's layer. He's got arcane sight up, so any magical traps should be obvious. The team's rogue (another halfling) is should be able to spot any nonmagical traps, and the bard (the third halfling on the team) alternates between detect magic and poking things with mage hand.
He has half a warning when he sees what he thought was decorations on the floor light up beneath him to his arcane sight and he is wrenched elsewhere...
