The next day Juliet is absent from school. And the day after that, and the one after that too.
Okay. I'll ask.
A second later, another message. You gonna talk to her?
"I don't particularly want to."
Call me when you have answers.
"We all do things we don't want sometimes. Pancakes it is."
Anders rubs his hands into his forehead. "You can't...bullrush your way through this."
She is silent for a long moment. "I don't really know what else to do. Will you tell me?"
"I...sometimes don't know how to answer that myself."
Anders rubs his arm. "I don't know. Can we leave it at when I know, I'll tell you? And that...I'll eat something. And tell you if things are getting worse?"
She nods then reaches out and takes his hand.
"I love you."
"I love you too, rogue. You and me, ey?"
He squeezes her hand.
"Like you could get rid of me." Eventually, they arrive at the group home. "I'll pick you up tomorrow morning. Bright and early."
Anders leans across the centre console to kiss her temple. "You leave me waiting and I'll be sorely put out."
He clambers out of the car. "See you tomorrow, Queen."
She laughs and rolls her eyes. "Get inside before I run you over."
Anders smiles and disappears inside.
